Just to confirm-There are no wizard scroll vendor and thus wizards are gimped on that, right?
I accidentally let that Troll experimenting Mage die, does this mean no scroll vendors for the rest of the game? o-o

For some reason all I got is Hold Person, Acide arrow, Fireball and a few other spells of Olivia.

yeah, no scroll vendors, wizards who were not prescient on their levelling spell picks are boned.
And those who were, are still boned, just slightly less.

What the hell is the point of wizards then? Sorc might be a little behind, but their flexability is way greater if Wizards cannot access a reasonable mage shop.

There are other ways to get scrolls besides vendors, you find enough of them to learn pretty much every spell in the game.

After few dozen fireball scrolls, and not a single sense vitals one, i'm starting to doubt it.

You get only what you can find on dropped scrolls in treasure and from your opponents. Wizards have little to no advantage over sorcerers in that regard.
J4n1, you don't need to be prescient, the good spells are obvious. You just cannot afford to pick those which can be useful in few situations, which a wizard will hoard nonetheless.

I would have wished that you can loot the spellbooks of enemy wizards or find such in treasures to round out your library. Or that there were more dropped scrolls. Thus far I have found 3 6th, 1 7th, 1 8th and 1 9th level spell from the higher ones, and for some reason Octavia cannot inscribe Horrid Wilting.

You can inscribe a spell that is higher level than you can cast. I'm not sure if that's a bug though.

I usually find scrolls before I can cast them so by the time I get to pick those spells it won't let me anyway. But that is on Octavia and she's one level behind on her spellcasting.

Also, some of the most useful spells have a ton of scrolls drop (haste being a major example). So ironically you should pick the least obvious (but still useful) spells to learn on level up. But then if you don't find a scoll you're kinda boned.

He only has some 2nd-3rd level spells anyway.

Old Beldame has some. And there's a vendor at the fair in Part 5 that has a ton of 7th-9th level spells. Of course, if you've blown all your gold on the other top-end items on sale at the other vendors there you're toast.

Also, you can ask Irlene for scrolls. She only gives you one at a time though, I think.

By chapter three, pretty much every random encounter seems to drop random scrolls (and sometimes magical equipment).

You need to be prescient if you want the max amount of spells.
Don't pick fireball, those are bloody everywhere, don't pick mage armor, it becomes useless when you find better bracers (also, everyone has like +20 to hit anyway), don't pick scorching ray, you'll find enough to fill a mattress, don't pick hold person, those are dime a dozen.
Do pick sense vitals, scroll is nowhere to be found and it is awesome (never was thinking of being a damage dealer, but somehow debuffs get constantly resisted so ♥♥♥♥ it, hand me the crossbow).

I meant you don't have to be to get a workable repertoire. Maxing the collection out is a different matter :)

Btw, there is *one* scroll of Sense Vitals. At least I found only one, and that was somwhere in chapter 4 in the western territories.

There is a good scroll vendor for high level spells in chapter 5 during the Rushlight Tournament, during this quest you can also buy a few metamagic rods and a fantastic metamagic belt, so save some money, but this quest is around level 13 (or 14) so it indeed takes a long time to get to it and the area is inacessible afterwards, but indeed until this quest it's really hard to get a good selection of scrolls making wizard a bit gimped. An even bigger problem in my opinion is the lack of higher level spells (and mid levels also need a few more) which not even the merchant cited above can alleviate, this problem combined with the fact that most levels have 2 or 3 spells that are a cut above the rest makes Sorcerers a better option now in my opinion, at least until they manage to fill the spell list a bit more or modders do it.

They are all in Pitax main square after you finish the chapter.
There's a mod that allows crafting scroll, wands, potions and now wonderous items
