The Lost Child: Saving Tig, Is it even Possible? (spoilers)
I've been trying to save this kid for awhile now... as far as i can tell is no feesble way to do it, despite looking around nobody seems to have an answer on what to do or the tasks to do to actually save him. Some claim to have done so but i have seen zero evidence of it.

If you talk to his mother before you find tig she'll confess the situation, and tell you what happened, which allows you an extra dialouge option which seems to effect the spirit but upon killing the Wisp the child dies, if you talk to the old lizard out front he draws the spirit out and yet again the wisp kills the chief and the boy.

So question is... how are people actually saving him? if so what exactly am i missing to do so, because i feel like i've found everything and spoke to everyone but doesn't seem to work and the child always dies.

Curious if this is just scripted or if he can actually be saved.

Edit: and i've tried looking everywhere for a viable solution but nobody seems to have one.

Edit 2: Solution

How to save the Child Step by Step

1: find the witch, speak to her and and she'll confess she didnt do it and that you should speak to the mother
2: Find the random event and save the lizardman (not sure if this is required but i think it helps)
3: talk to the old rattler outside the village for more insight
4: Talk to the chief now you can threaten him with an evil option or use the lawful option or dipomacy.
5: find the lizard in the hut, and heal her
6. find the lizard by the beat pens, calm and reassure him you arent here for revenge.
7: talk to the 2 farming lizards, and tell them to think for themselves
8: you can now either get the old rattlers help and face down the spirit or if you have glitter dust and a good arcana check you can reveal the creature and kill it. The boy will survive, Be sure to mention the boys mother with the added dialogue.
9: defeat the lizard cheif as he goes beserk after you kill the wisp

I was trying to find out what the requirements for success were, and the exact steps to releasing him without death as i could not find any information on just what all you had to do. and arent really any guides yet.

Edit: be aware this guy got updated...he now spams searing light which does straight divine damage, i don't recall him doing that the last time i was here on my mystic theurge save. So seems like they are revamping enemies he's actually alot more threatening now then before

Cast Protection from Energy: Lightning (single target) on the boy, THEN go talk to the old lizard and start the fight with the Good option. The spell will still be in place, and it will make him immune to at least the first lightning bolt.

I'd like to think that if you payed close attention you could probably figure this out without needing to savescum. The spirit is obviously a will-o-wisp. Will-o-wisps spam the hell out of lightning damage. Trying to kill the spirit is going to piss it off, at best it's going to spam lightning around at random, accidentally hitting the child during the fight, at worst it's going to be spiteful and kill the child on purpose. Either way protecting the child from lightning is a logical precaution. The chief on the other hand... he drops good loot, let him die.

You can also just sacrifice the old lizard to the wisp in exchange for the child (Neutral Evil option).

The funniest path is evil.

Walk to chieftain and say that you will cut off their tails and legs, burn their village and throw salt on earth so nothing grows there for generations.

The evil spirit then goes "lol, that was hilarious dude. take boi". Quest complete.

Err...don't you just cast glitterdust (have it memorized) from the dialogue and kill the whisp thing?
I've never had the boy die...Maybe your on hard or above?

If you follow the quest dialogs, after talking to the boy/spirit you are directed towards the old lizard you met outside the camp. The Spirit wants him in trade for the boy. You have two options in dialog then, you can either hand the lizard over, or you can side with the lizard who will reveal the spirit for you (by casting glitterdust, from the looks of it). If you choose the latter, the will-o-wisp will immediately cast lightning bolt during "cutscene mode" when you aren't allowed to interfere, instantly killing Tig unless difficulty and/or RNG modifiers prevent him from dying. I believe he also does the same towards the lizard chieftain too.

As I said above, protection from lightning will save the boy, and the quest will recognize that Tig survived and allow you to progress.

I had gliterdust prepared, and when i first went to the boy, there was an option in the dialoguje to use it.

Oh neat. I don't think I got that dialog. I didn't have glitterdust prepared but I should have been able to use it anyway because of my aasimar heritage. I guess the spell-like-ability version doesn't count.

The kid dies on Hard if you use glitterdust, and not because of the lighting or anything, he just dies right after the combat ends. I might've caught a bug, though.

I found the issue, are 3 events in the town you have to do all three i was missing the one in the hut, hence it would always kill the kid. I was WELL aware of what it was long before it showed itself. But i was trying to figure out what exactly determined the survive vs failure and what was actually killing the kid and if there was a way to save everyone or if the chief is just doomed to die, which seems to be the case.

How to save the Child Step by Step

1: find the witch, speak to her and and she'll confess she didnt do it and that you should speak to the mother
2: Find the random event and save the lizardman (not sure if this is required but i think it helps)

No he dies if you didn't do the 3 events in a good way you have to weaken the spirit before you kill him or his hold on the kid kills him on death. I assume some kind of psychic backlash.

Sounds like they've totally redone that quest then. I guess they didn't like people "cheating" with protection from electricity.

he still throws lightning bolt at the chief/kid just he attacks the party with searing light, which can't be absorbed by resist energy, probably so you arent utterly immune to his attacks.

I just picked the Good/Free thinking options for each conflict in the village, used Glitterdust in dialogue and murdered the hell out of the spirit, child unharmed. The chieftain and his two lackeys confronted me outside, so I killed them, too, letting the old lizard take over leadership.

For me, the fight ended without it dealing damage to the kid but the kid still dies.

Of course, I sneaked in through the side and didn't talk to anyone so I figure it's either scripted that he dies if you didn't do all the things (even if it doesn't make sense) or it's a bug.
TimidObserver Oct 13, 2018 @ 10:45pm
He kept dying for me too, so I overreacted a little bit.

I casted every defense buff I had on Tig, including electric resist and protection, BEFORE starting the fight. I also had my paladin to do nothing but cast lay on hands on Tig once the fight was started. No idea if this actually helped, but Tig survived when I overkill buffed/healed him.
