yes cause i'm gonan wait 10 to 20 hours till i level up just to try and pick a lock again... in real D&D are tons of options if you fail a lock pick, in this its literally tons of loot you can get locked out of because you mucked 1 roll. All it does is force save scumming it just needs to let you try again, and in ACTUAL D&D if you flub a lock pick it doesn't bust the lock unless you fail by so much just like disarming a trap.
It's not a very good mechanic and i as a loot ♥♥♥♥♥ find it infuriating.
not wasting skill points on two thievery characters... that's silly why would you even do this? i'm shocked that people would literally defend more load screens lol...
it's a silly mechanic that needs to go or have the ability to be turned off. Its not hard to understand why some of us don't like the idea of being forced to either save scum or come back later when the loot is probably useless.
Edit:
Like i said if you are gonna have a lockout mechanic you need to allow bashing to open chests. both NWN games had it, and you did have a chance to lose some items but was a far better mechanic then " reload reload reload reload " because the game keeps rolling a 5 or 6 or hell... let us take 10! or 20 by increasing the lock pick animation... again it's a gamey feeling mechanic that has no place in the game when there are rules in the ruleset to get around this sort of thing.
yea that's my point there are rules in place to get around this sort of thing i don't get why they feel the need to punish players for RNG rolls.. its not a game breaking thing it's just annoying...
this would be fine if it was just open locks but this would make traps pointless as well.
It’d be nice if you could “take” 10 or 20 when you’re out of combat.
Like, on a natural 1 or something I’d be fine with you ruining the lock and maybe needing a reload, but on every failed check even if it’s only off by 1 or 2 is a little much.
At least it gets me to use Inspire Competence.
Besides, there are some location-based checks you can't retry. As far as I can tell, I'm forever locked out of the area in the bottom left of the Gudrin Bridge map because I failed a Mobility check at low level. I'm now level 9 and I can't even attempt it any more.
