are inflict wounds spells not supposed to crit when used to do damage to the living?
this is interesting, but fails to directly answer the question:
https://paizo.com/threads/rzs2pf5y?-to-damage-effect-healing
doesn't seem to crit on the helpless either.
any word?

Im not sure spells can even crit. A roll of 20 is a guaranteed hit though, no matter the AC, so there is that.

spells can crit.
anyone know why inflict wounds can't?

Is there a damage type requirement for a spell to crit?
mookymook Oct 14, 2019 @ 6:19pm
hmm seems we're not getting anywhere
hey devs
if you see this
would you please comment on my original post question?
thanks!

Could the target be immune to criticals?

As far as I know, inflict X wounds spells should critically strike at natural 20 just as other touch spells. At least in tabletop.

Same bug is also true for the harm and heal spells. It's been bugged since release.

I think I reported it about an year ago but it's still there I see.

It doesn't really matter for the inflict spells since they are not really useful, but harm and heal are okish so there the bug bothers me a little.

All spells that require an attack roll can crit and this doubles their damage. This includes ability and level damage. For example a maximized and empowered energy drain will drain 24 levels if it crits. Pretty fun way to one shot bosses that aren't immune to it.

You can't maximize and empower energy drain. You can't metamagic it yourself because it's 9th level, and you can only use 1 metamagic rod on a given spell. If the game has some other way to do it, it's not supposed to.

You can empower & maximize level 9 spells by using the Grandmaster's Rod (in addition the "grandmastered" spells ignore SR checks).

You're probably a little bit to needy and demanding. Please consider being more polite. Also, the devs don't watch Steam forums (anymore).
