Report a translation problem
This is the pnp rules for cloudkill movement :
"Figure out the cloud’s new spread each round based on its new point of origin, which is 10 feet farther away from the point of origin where you cast the spell."
That means that if the cloud moves north, it can move then north, west or east next round (depending on the terrain, like if it hits a wall it will follow the wall, and not just get stuck over hit), it just can't move back south because it comes from the south ("further away" doesn't specify a direction, it just means it can't go backward).
So yeah, the cloud should move in different fashion each turn, but the implementation shouldn't be tied to the caster after the first round.
It definitely mirrors my movements, i've tried it multiple times, it always moves to the same direction the caster does.
