About Elven Proficiencies...
So, I made an elven vivisectionist.

When I mouse over the icon "elven weapon proficiencies" I see, what weapons can be used.
Among others there is an entry, telling, that "any weapon with the word 'elven' can be used".

Now, there is a "Elven Curved Blade" in game, as masterwork available in Oleg's shop. But it is "red", meaning, that my elf can't equip it.

More astounding IMO is, that this blade - although it is a 2-HD - is listed under "finesseable weapons".

Questions:

Am I thinking in a wrong way? Must even an elf take "exotic weapon proficiency" to be able to use the elven curved blade?

Howcome, that a 2-HD-sword is finesseable?

I think you also need to have Martial Weapon proficiency. Had the same issue with Harim and dwarven waraxe's as clerics (and I believe thus also Inquisitors) only get Simple Weapon proficiency.

It says "Elves are proficient with longbows (including composite longbows), longswords, rapiers, and shortbows (including composite shortbows), and treat any weapon with the word “elven” in its name as a martial weapon."

Elven Curve Blade is a martial weapon for an Elf. You aren't automatically proficient with any weapons other than the specific ones listed.

This means if you are usin ga class that doesn't have Martial Weapon Proficiency you need to take it (you don't have to take exotic, and martial is moe weapon unlocks it's preferable)

As for being Finessable: That's the perk of the sword. It's a Finessable Bastard Sword (that has to be wielded 2H) essentially. Well it's kind of an upgraded Scimitar >.< Pathfinder is a lot looser with how it "values" weapons than I would like.

The tooltip on the characters are a bit misleading.

As the others have stated, as an Elf, you need the Martial Proficiency if you don't have it already. Any other race would have to spend a Feat tax for Martial then Exotic to use the same weapon. The same goes for Harrim with Dwarven weapons and Reg with Orcish weapons.

Unless we're talking about a non-English translation the tooltip is not in any way misleading. It states you are proficient with certain weapon types, and that you treat any weapon with "elven" in its name as martial.

It does not, in any way imply, you automatically have proficiency with those weapons if you don't have Martial Proficiency. In fact I don't think there's any way to make the tooltip any more clear.

As you can see, dumb people like me must ask.

But now it's clear. Thx to all who clariefied it for me :)

When I first read that tooltip, in relation to Reg in my case, back in September, it was much less clear. I do not recall the words "martial proficiency" appearing there at that time.

I have often found it is not a matter of intelligence but a matter of how much reading is actually being done.

I spend, literally, all day explaining to people what statements mean. These people are not so much dumb as they are unwilling to think about the statements actual meaning.

Reading is a skill. The more you do it, and the more you actually think about what you're reading, the better you get and the fewer times you'll be confused.

I think it's been hotfixed to use the actual PnP description since then. Originally I'm pretty sure they (the devs) wrote the desriptions (for themselves) and translated over rather than using the standard PnP formats.

That's what I needed.... an arrogant elitist, who losses no opportunity to belittle others...

No that was simple advice. You decided to add your own feelings to it.

No. A simple advice is "look at the tooltip once more. You will find that it is a martial weapon instead of exotic.". What you did wasnt arrogant either, it was just not helpful at all and you were being an arse...

Simple advice. It helps to just answer questions and maybe point out that the answer was out there all along, but not being sarcastic while doing so. Or shutting up is an alternative, in your case it might have been the better one.

That was in fact the first thing I did.

The very first post I made in the thread. My second was saying tha tthe tooltip was not confusing (to someone else who was remembering it being more vague around release). My third was a responce to the OP calling himself dumb.

Which was to say that reading is a skill. I deal with poeple daily who don't understand sataments. Best way to get better is to think about the statements you're reading.

That was. In fact. Simple advice.

He got all defensive because I said that

"I have often found it is not a matter of intelligence but a matter of how much reading is actually being done."

I was not, as you put it, being an arse. The VERY FIRST thing I did in the thread was to answer his question. The second was to tell him that the question wasn't about him being dumb.
