Secondary claim regions as soon as you can ( when unlocked) and pick up the artisan quests in their settlement. Build their building as well.
Besides the artisan buildings dont stress over building on every single slot. Most early buildings just give stats to help you rank up faster. See what you need and build accordingly. The rest of the buildings should be utility ones. A must have are teleportation circles so you might want to get Divine to 60 to unlock the magician advisor.
Also never-ever get into negative BP. It causes unrest. You might want to have a small ( not that much) BP amount available before rank up events in case one of the options you would like to pick require you to spend BP (and if you have less BP than that = negative BP = problem). Don't forget you can buy BP with gold.
Overall kingdom management is less scary that it appears. Personally I was afraid at start due to many people complaining online , only to figure out its way easier than I thought it would be.
- Set kingdom management difficulty to easy or effortless, it won’t affect the overall difficulty.
- Problem must be prioritize. (event)
- Opportunity are totally optional and can be ignored or even canceled if needed. (event)
- Curse are also optional and are almost only needed for a special ending.
- Always try to keep 100+ BP in reserve and never skip a day with negative BP in the bank or you will lose unrest level until your kingdom crumble.
- Gold will be mostly use to buy Builds Points (BP) at first
- The only buildings needed in town are Artisans workshops, bulletin board(lawful), aviary and teleportation circle. For the most part, the other buildings are only useful to increase specific stats or to upgrade village > town > city.
- Try to visit your throne room at least every month.
- Always save before doing a 14 days upgrades of any kind since bad things can happen.
- Visit villages after they are build to recruit new artisans. Except Bokken who is at Oleg.
- Rank III + 60pts in loyalty, community, military and divine will unlock new advisors positions. Relation III + 60pts will unlock the espionage advisor.
- Ranking the Warden will increase the unrest level back up to stable

A good enough Wiki for the most part

Thanks for this info.
So Ive been playing on hardest difficulty and think I may have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ myself. They constantly saying Barony is doing well - then I get a message theres unrest; I just cant tell whats going on.
Is there a meter or bar somewhere to let me know how bad off I really am? I have handled all the 'attack on hilltop' quests so far well before they hit the barony, I have put advisors on 90% of problems, i sometimes dont have a spare to stick on it and it times out.
I just got the second region unlocked and hadnt started building yet; but should i just switch to automatic or is there a way to tell like how bad/good things are easily? Im just not sure what the status overall is.
Why? You're always on a time, and the more time you spend not improving each advisory post of your kingdom, the more trouble you will end up with around the time of Chapter 6. Which is where kingdom level all of a sudden begins to matter, A LOT. Completing chapters as soon as possible is what gives you the most amount of time to do things afterward, exceptions being the chapter of Season of bloom, and the final chapter.
Why? Rations allow you to rest for the minimum time required, and also allows you to rest in caves.
Why? Problems cause your kingdom to lose statistic points. Rank-ups are what allows your advisers to have a better chance at dealing with problems. You can only rank up to level V for the majority of the game, but after a certain point you are able to rank up all the way to level X.
That, along with an aviary in every town allows up to around 3 more points per adjacent region with sign post and aviary (a city doesn't seem to get more points by having more aviaries and bulletin boards in it).
Those points add up to the maximum/minimum die roll your advisers can get when trying to resolve each event.
It's highly dependent on your playstyle whether you end up in a position where you need to buy mercenaries in order to fill up advisor slots, but use a guide or the Pathfinder Kingmaker wiki to know where and when to get a companion advisor before it's too late.
That would be the unrest level
Serene 1
Stable 0
Worried -1
Troubled -2
Rioting -3
Crumbling -4
Game over
Why it generally drop is because
- skipping days with negative build point
- some problem but its relatively rare unless the fail drop some kingdom stat in the negative
- Ignoring the main quest for too long and/or ignoring Bald Hilltop the main main quest
How the increase the unrest level back up to stable? Mostly by ranking up the stability advisor the Warden. To unlock the Warden you need military rank III + 60pts.
#11 is the unrest level and hovering over it should also tell you why you have lost / win some level.

I don't recommend switching it off without at least trying but if the kingdom management is not your ''thing'', then go ahead turn it to auto. But keep in mind that auto mean no artisans.
These are very solid tips. Mercenaries are not needed, if you find all your regular. comrades in game. Also when your advisors come to you with questions or problems they want you to solved, that is a clue that they are ready to advance, with your help, which makes them raise in level for future problem solving. Your main character will take TWO WEEKS off with them to raise their abilities, which often is where players get into issues- stuff happens while they are AWOL, So, before you take that two week advisor level raising break, always make sure outstanding problems are being tackled and so on.
