If he doesnt destroy it he takes it with him, When you meet him again in his quest, he wants to destroy it then . At that moment you either let him do it or kill him to stop him .
If you don't kill him you can choose what to do with him.
Whether he destroys it in the tomb or not has an effect in a later chapter.
No that is not possible. The requirement for him to destroy it is to visit the 3 areas within the tomb and pick the good dialogue options when tristian iniates dialogue. Which obviously you cannot do if he wasn't in your party
If you don't have him with you he just shows up steals the oculus and bails.
Indeed.
Strange. I don't think i've ever taken Tristian. Unless absoloutely required for a quest i always roll with NPCs. But i've definitely had him destroy the eye.
I've checked a number of posts and walkthroughs and yeah, they all say the same thing. You need to have Tristian with you at 3 points and choose the right options.
Maybe it was a bug....
Or maybe that time i did take Tristian with me and somehow picked all the right options.
I wouldn't rule out a bug though ;)
Ah good to know, I always went for all 3.
Personally when I didn't destroy the passage, I could not get him to destroy the oculus afterwards
