Sword saint can use laether armor??
It seems like an exploit but if you pick arcane armor training you can use studded laether armor with no problem. Am I missing something???

Canny Defense
While wielding their chosen weapon and not wearing armor or wielding a shield, a Sword Saint gains a dodge bonus to their AC for each point of intelligence they have, up to their Sword Saint level.

Oh, the wiki I read didnt mention that.
I guess I can still cast mage armor spell tho?

Yes it generally better for a sword saint to be naked.

Dexterity
Canny defense
Mage armor or armor bracer later
1 monk level to add wisdom or charisma modifier to ac + access to monk robe later
...

The only class with actual armor restrictions is the Druid (and maybe the Ecclesitheurge cleric archetype).

Most of the classes just have various abilities that stop functioning if you don't meet the requirements. And they don't tell you that they've stopped functioning....

Otherwise it's just feats that limit your weapon/armor selection. In the Pen and paper, the feats just negate penalties and anyone can equip anything. Padded armor has almost non-existent penalties, so it's often taken by unarmored spellcasters without actually taking the light armor proficiency feat (especially for low level characters).

It should be noted that in this game there are robes that are better than any light armor.

There is a case to be made for straight saint 20 with oak. We can do 70AC still. Problem is, it's not really doable on unfair as the AC ramp is too slow and the feats will be too tight. Another problem is oak would likely be very contested in the party. Not the worst plan for a level20 merc hire, though. 500 damage crits are nice.

This description leaves out the option to wear either light armor or no armor as described in the in-game tooltip.
