Maybe keep a master save just in case, though.
Yes that is a different ending, I think the description goes like " help her make a joke " or something among this lines . In order to get it you need to 1)complete the crown quest by giving to Shyka 2) Do not kill Nyrisa but also do not romance her nor give her the briar . Bear in mind the game ends at that part and the final part is skipped.
As for your spoiler question:
During the last conversation with the defeated Lantern King, you have all the options you would normally have (steal his power, try to kill him, etc.) but if you freed Nyrissa and did everything right, you will also have a new option: "Now, Nyrissa, do it like we planned!" Which prompts Nyrissa to curse the Lantern King. This is the only way to get the best secret ending. Also, the crown isn't really needed for this ending, in fact, it's mutually exclusive. You can keep it or free Lethoriel, it won't make a difference if you're going for the secret ending. What you need is Lantern King's mask and advice from three Eldest (Shyka, Lost Prince and Maghd). You will get that during the quest "You Shall Reap" in Act 7. You can't get that quest unless you gave the real Briar to Nyrissa thus restored her soul and romanced her and talked her out of fighting at the HATEOT. So after you pass that conversation it's pretty railroaded from there and you can't really miss things.
