Granted sending me a cr 11 monster.. or two to fight me. Is more or less a death sentance. That said sure if you want some late game boss you can go revisit then sure go ahead. But this is a random encounter. one that you cannot even run away unless you chease it. Which i did i just summoned a bunch of undead and ran out of aggro range.
As it is its dumb. Reloading is not an in game solution.
Ps. And yup. Thats exactly what would have happened in PnP. I got hell for a boss with 15-20 crit :P Freaking sugarpuffs!
What region?
Because this often happen when you're travelling in region that intended for far higher level (for example - any exploration on north/weast past Verdant Chambers will lead to such situations).
It's open world game - you shouldn't expect to explore whole map from Day 1.
Theres 2 crazy encounters early in game. 1. Wererat cave (next to the city) 2. Elder elememtals (random encounter)
All you can do sadly is reload.
that said not going to lie the rats are annoying. but with a bit of luck and alot of cc you can easily beet them. just get linsy to get hold person and hedious laughter. Granted i am playing on a modified difaculty of normal crits and dmg with weak enemies.
That siad long story short i shouldn't be facing such high foes in most of these regions. its not like i am way over in thousand voices or some place far far away.
Also, i should note i been told the game ends around level 17. so you should be at least 2/3 done with the game before even seeing these high level mobs.
Narlmarhces (both) are intended to be third region.
Kamelands are intended to be explored after Troll Wars (with you party around 8+ lvl).
So yean, you get into high-level location and get unlucky roll for random enemy.
also funny bit is my party is strong enough to take on cr level 9 monsters. as i just killed a mastadon in 3 turns by summong a hord of undead to tank it. and wailing on it with everyone else .
This is just my humble opinion though, so take it witrh a grain of salt.
What's strange? Your party have EPL of 7. So CR9 is perfectly doable (+2 levels from your).
Regardless thou a cr 11 encounter wasn't going to happen. maby if i had time to buff up and prepare before hand. But the thing was spawned directly on me. So not much i could have done about it.
Anyway, you know what lets drop the whole talking about rules and think. What exactly was this creature doing hear to begin with? Outsiders rarely appear on the material plane without some form of outside intervention. Such as a mage trying to summon a creature that they couldn't control. Or tied to the location in some form of way for example a water elmental might appear in the middle of a lake.
This one was in the middle of nowhere, not even a puddle to be found on the map. so why did this creature exist to begin with? its not a group of bandits or wild beast looking for a meal. it is a outsider form one of the elmental planes. it souldn't be able to get to the material world to begin with. So why is it a random encounter?
You're forgetting about First World influence. Plus River Kingdoms are nearby large community of undines, so their tied with water magic are strong.
Also that don't explane for example the 2 elder fire elmental encounter i once had. creatures that in all honest wouldn't be allied in any form or way with fey or undines.
Granted, you could also say that about the endless stream of kobolds, goblins, bandits, that come out of the woodwork to attack you. Even thou you been commiting genocide on those fractions.
