Zombies in that dungeon carries a LOT of rations, far more then you will ever need. You most likely have already kills some? Go back and re loot them and check.
There are a number of things you can do in order to make it easier
* Buffing is always key in PF. I seem to remember Stoneskin helping against them and in general anything that helps you hit them and/or avoid their attacks will help you. Go through all those potions and scrolls you have and use them
* Lowering the difficulty should always be an option, especially if it is your first time through the game. The tomb is significantly easier on second playthroughs since you know what to expect then.
* They are evil outsiders, so anything targetting or protecting from Evil or Outsiders will help. Direct targetting can only be done by the affected party members in that stage of the fight and I dont remember if Linzi can access banishment or dismissal or some such spell, but you might have something useful in either your gear backpack or among your scrolls or wands
* If you have something that can speed up Linzi, such as haste or expedious retreat, she might also be able to kite hers. Valerie should be able to handle hers as it is. But make sure she is actually hitting it. I have noticed that sometimes the characters stop attacking for some reason
* Remember that while your other party members can not affect the soul eaters, they can still heal or cast supportive spells and such.
* Death ward, anything buffing fortitude and buffs to AC would also be good choices for buffs.
You refering to the ambush at the tree? I think youre reading too much into that fight. The fight is not only avoidable but its suggested in game to avoid it with invis potions.
Reminds me of the dead bodies argument. They are not clues of higher difficulty. They are decorations for the map.
