Channel positive energy: heal living is inconsistent
If I cast it, it heals everyone. If the enemy casts it, it only affects bad guys. Combat log reveals all.

Selective channeling?
yeah, they more than likely have selective energy

Get charisma 13 on your cleric and get selective channeling feat. In PnP you can only exclude one target from your healing per charisma modifier, in the videogame, just charisma 13 is fine.

Selective channel is kinda a trap feat. You shouldn't be combat healing often, and it shouldn't be often where you heal the enemy more than your team when you do.

Most of the people playing this game have never actually played a tabletop game before, so the concept of healing and so forth is, for them, very different. They basically are coming from games like WoW where priests are just healbots playing whack-a-mole with their party members' hp bars.

Even in table top you did pay attention to health. Doesn't do you good to let the fighter go down, or heave forbid your mage. Got to heal the barb before his rage wears off and he dies from his wounds.. Etc.

But even a combat cleric is going to be using heals at times, outside of story mode. There is a reason you can spontaneously cast your healing spells

There is literally never a situation in which you should cast a healing spell instead of a crowd control spell unless you flat out do not have an effective crowd control spell available to be cast. Period. Ever. Period.

Also, use Unchained Barbarian. Not the legacy barbie.

If your fighter is going splat, you or he made a mistake in how you approached the fight. You should have scouted ahead first or buffed first or just selected your feats and equipment more wisely. Sometimes the fighter should not go charging into melee. Switch to your bow and shoot things while they're controlled.

There is never a reason to heal in combat if you're playing optimally or even just playing well.

I guess I would say that it's fine to make mistakes? It's just a game. Learning is part of the content of the game. But I would provide this advice as a kind of goalpost by which to estimate your "performance" - assuming you even want to care about "performance" in the first place. And if that's not the case, it doesn't matter what you do and you don't need a reason or rationalization to defend your choices. Just do what you want.

I have to agree, heals in combat should be a last resort and rare.

Hey, I am excited to agree with you on something! :)

Could not echo this point more strongly, especially on unfair where the name of the game is reducing incoming damage through disables/debuffs rather than using a round to cure or channel. It doesn't matter so much on normal or below though, where pretty much any strategy can work.

Yeah no reason to heal, it's not like someone can fail a save, get hit with a dot and die at the end of the round without a heal..

But hey if you play on easy mode... they just get up at the end of the battle.
One of the problems with this game is the bloated enemies DC. So unless you've specced into pumpingup your DC, later game a lot of CC can fail.
