Are the pregenerated characters good enough?
I want to play this game, but the simple act of building a character is asking too much. Like been handed an ikea box full of pieces that are supposed to form a set of mysterious furniture.

This is definitely one of the most complex character creation and progression systems you're going to see in video games, but you really do want to have some idea of what is going on with it for that very reason.

In general you can get away with choosing a class, setting attributes that support the role you intend to take, and picking the recommended feats, but even then the things you pick will completely determine how you play your character.

Yes the fighter call Hedwirg is very strong and auto leveling him or the companions should be fine for difficulty setting easy, normal or even challenging.

Yeah hedwirg has actually more total stats than a custom char. If you're not confident in your buildcarfting, it's pretty safe pick.

This game you can spend more time figuring out all the class rules than it takes to actually beat the game lol :(

The pre-gens aren't great, but are usable at least.

Depends on what you mean by "good enough" but they are perfectly adequate to get you through the game on normal or challenging.

I rarely use the pre-build route, unless, they are characters like the Tiefling sisters, or, Ragongar. I will use pre-build on them because, quite frankly, I don't like them, and hardly use them, unless on Companion Quests. I know they are good, and, could bring a lot to my party, but, it's not worth putting up with them.

Who are Hedwirg and Ragongar? I'm on chapter 2 and never heard of them.

Hedwing is a pre-generated character. You will see him among one of the six or so pre-generated characters in the character generation screen. Ragongar is a half-orc Magus whom you are supposed to pick up in tandem with Octavia.

Oh, the half orc, I never bring him as I want to nail his mrs. Thanks!

LMAO! ;)

None of the story female characters are all that cute though! ;)

Octavia would be fine if she wasn't such nutjob and a garden implement.

I just did a blind run on challenging not knowing anything of the game or Pathfinder.

I would say the typical upgrade builds for the companions were awful. You really need to use some interesting multiclass options.

Yup most of my time was spent learning rules, classes and mechanics.

I did dislike both clerics and the way arcane was handled on companions. Not 1 pure arcane caster. Didn't realize how bad they were until I did varnhold dlc with custom party. Octavia was great and 1 shotted a full Jabberwocky but she her schools keep her from a lot of good arcane buffs/debuffs.

If you aren't multiclassing wisely you are going to need a lot of pre combat buffs or micro manage every battle in detail.

The way the battles are with the varying sizes of your party and enemies plus the sheer volume of enemies the battles quickly become chaotic and messy. Unless your constantly pausing and readjusting.

And to buff that many times early and mid game where they don't last long you either need to constantly rest or have dozens of scrolls.

I didn't personally care to rest a lot. And I hated micro managing each battle because there are a lot.

I felt going blind mid game you don't know what your encounters will be like. So combat is more of a puzzle. Equip the right gear and buffs then it's easy. If you don't know which buffs better cast them all or it's reload city.

Varnhold dlc is probably where I learned the most about party, building, and mechanics. Before that I had no idea what to do with my party and companions.

If you know a lot about the game and mechanics you could probably do challenging cause you know everything. But from someone who didn't know anything the default companion path wasn't the best. Its really all about learning how to properly multiclass each companion.

Just get turn-based mod.

Thought about it but I wanted to play vanilla. I thoroughly enjoyed the game.

Just some combats there are 1 or 2 dozen enemies. And if they get fear you have them running every where.
