octavia romance question

in order to get the ball rolling with octavia do you just need to roam the lands with her and reg in your party and just camp and listen to their dialogue or do you have to progress in the story to open up romance options?

Reg isn't needed, my Baroness is with her and aside from their locked story node never had him in the party. I have had her in the party and talked to her fully where possible whenever i can and it eventually came up as a option when i went to the Tavern (i had also given her the whip)

My baroness is romancing both Octavia and Regongar, so there may be differences if you're just romancing Octavia, but here's what I remember doing to set it up:

1) The first time I returned to Oleg's after rescuing them from the Technic League, Octavia approached my character and flirted with her, something about whether there was "another reason" my PC freed them aside from being heroic or whatever. I chose the obvious flirtatious response about how I wouldn't have found the Technic League Camp if her beauty hadn't "beaconed" me there.

2) Asking Regongar about their relationship, when he asked if my PC were judging them or asking because she wanted to join them in their tent, I took the response along the lines of, "Is that an offer? I might take you up on that."

3) When heading to the big confrontation at the end of Chapter 1, Regongar told my PC he'd shower her with kisses if they survived. I told him I'd hold him to that.

After all of that, when I went to the tavern early in Chapter 2, I got the chance to make the relationship official. From Chapter 2 there have been a couple of dialogues that pop up at the end of camping in which my PC could participate as well as listening to them talk to each other.

I don't know if any of these specific steps are required; presumably the latter two wouldn't be if you just want to be with Octavia, but I don't know if it's necessary to take that first option to flirt with Octavia, or if you can initiate the romance path later.

iam in chapter 2 i got octavia to invite me up to the tavern bedroom, do i gotta progress the story to get further or is there something else i gotta do

In that case, you're definitely in a romance with her. The dialogue with which she greets you should change to reflect that. I'd guess you probably do need to wait to progress the story to see further development. I'm still in Chapter 2 myself. :)

Yes it is going ok.
You need
-"Romance Counter" points that are gained by picking right dialoge options (their Aligment - ) with other NPCs while Romance is in your party.
-Chaotic for Octavia, Lawfull X for Valerie, Good for Tristian, Evil and Chaotic for Regongar
-Only DLC Companion is exeption to romance twins you need Neutral during 1on1 dialoge, and they only gain points by progressing their companion quest.
- Pick non-aligment response during 1on1 dialoge with your Romance
- Camp in some area with your romance after some time to get dialoge after resting (I do not reccomend resting on world map)
