The wizard is never going to deal relevant damage with a bow. With only 1/2 BAB he's not going to reliably hit anything, he's not going to get the iterative attacks, and without significant investment in other feats he's not going to do any significant damage when he does get lucky enough to hit.
The levels and feats are better spent making the wizard awesome at what he is already good at. Battlefield control. Invest in Spell Focus and raise those DCs. Pick up Greater Spell Penetration so you can punch through spell resistance late game. Take a couple of meta-magic feats (I like heighten spell to raise the DC on things like Slow and Web, but other choices are also good).
If the fight is not challenging enough to require the wizard's spells, don't sweat it if he does nothing. You'll be happy enough for him to have his resources available when they are needed.
