Primal Dire Boar will not die.
I'm at the Temple of Elk and 3 times now I have gotten this thing to 0 hp and it will not die. Is there something I'm missing, or is this a bug?

If it just lays there at 0 HP while you hit it, maybe it has regeneration. Have you tried hitting it with any type of fire damage after it hits 0 HP. Can use a spell or just melee it with one of the torches you start the game with.

Some stuff just doesn't die immediately, even if it say it's dead. I've fought plenty of Bandits that are marked as Dead and still standing and swinging 30-50 hit points of damage later, or more.. 3rd or 4th level bandits. I don't know, how much damage do you think 4-5 characters hitting one target can do in 6 rounds?

I've never bug reported it because it's not regular as an occurence, (several times in the first chapter), and because I can't say the Devs didn't give them some special ability I'm not aware of.

I actually had the Fighter in the bandit camp, (4th level), last a good 10 rounds after he was dead. Only one of them left standing, and he just kept hitting my characters with his Greatsword. Marked Dead since well before the rest went down as he was the second one I focused on. Necromancer went down in the first round.

Sort of strange, because if you walk away and leave the encounter range, they just die, so that may be a workaround for you.

I did end up killing it. It just takes a lot of RNG. I'm playing on the "hard" difficulty first playthrough

this game all kind of saving throw and roll is garbage, especially in early game. when in higher difficulty you'll realize you always have bad roll and enemy always had crit and any kind of high saving roll , i think the dev had some brain issue into stat management. this kind of d&d system being hard core is not the same like dark souls that's more manageable if you had fast reflex. this game was just so random and annoying than challenging. most of the negative review is pointing at the gabage stat roll.

Since nobody else said it...

No, it is not a bug. Half-orcs, and some mobs, have a feat called "Diehard" which means they don't go down immediately when their hp reach zero. Boars like Tuskgutter and the spectral boar have this feat. You can keep hitting them until they reach negative their original hp, or just wait for them to die.

As far as hitting it goes, just just Linzi's song and bless, otherwise use guaranteed hit spells like magic missile. He can't hit your tank either, so put them out front. I never thought it was a particularly difficult opponent.

boars are just annoying, they dont die until u get them in negative constution(i guess so), and no it is not "diehard" feat, maybe it IS diehard feat but i would consider it bugged as it works different/false for (some) enemys, normally diehard keeps u on ure feet for 1 turn after ure hp went below 0, after 1 turn u die or fall to the ground, actually it works for the orc one on enemies (they die after 1 turn after hp have been reduced to 0), however... boars will NEVER die after their hp have been reduced to 0, i just tested this out and the boar killed my whole party and refused to die even after several turns even his hp alraedy were below 0... he had 25con so i guess he has +25hp(invisible).... unless this isnt a talent i do not know or intended (what i doubt) "boarexclusive second life perk" for some very strange reason(what is nowhere noted like similiar stuff), i call this a bug as the boars should die after 1 turn and the one at the elk temple doesnt and the one at amiris first personal quest probably not as well... such stuff is really annoying, esp if u face strong enemies which kill u even u reduced their hp -.-'

From the pathfinder rules, Dire Boars have the "Ferocity" ability:

Ferocity (Ex)

A creature with ferocity remains conscious and can continue fighting even if its hit point total is below 0. The creature is still staggered and loses 1 hit point each round. A creature with ferocity still dies when its hit point total reaches a negative amount equal to its Constitution score.

The Dire Boars you can summon from Summon Nature's Ally 4 have the same ability and can take a good beating; overlooked that spell my first few playthroughs.
