SSD vs HDD (performance)
I had installed both the Pillars Of Eternity games, Tyranny, Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun Dragonfall on an HDD, and never had a huge issue with them -- loading times included.

How does Kingmaker compare? By the time of the game's initial release, there were reports about issues with loading times in particular, even on SSDs.

5-10 sec loading time with SSD, i7-7700K and 1060. No idea about HDD, haven't tried.

it's no a big difference between ssd and hdd in this game. I've on hdd on 1 pc and on ssd on 2nd and load times almost the same.
Lots of people post long load times with hdd. If you have 8g ram + it can help with the load times and a mod on nexus called cleaner. Because owlcat can't optomise their game but modders can :)

It's a lot better on HDD now, i believe. There's also the cleaner as Jack mentioned, and my times are fine even without it.

Ironically for me it's more saving the game that sometimes takes a weirdly long time. Loading meanwhile usually isn't too lengthy.

Disabling auto-saves decreased a lot the loading times for me!

Same thing for me. But it's bearable.

@timbermaw: wrong.
They made huge improvements and that whole loading thing is because of the Unity engine, just look at PoE, Torment, etc.

Runs perfectly fine on my HDD (and always did run perfectly fine since basically day 1 release). Never tried on SSD.

Deadfire on the other hand ... *triggered* ... lets just say optimization is one of the many flaws that game has.

I know that this isn't the specific question that you asked, but if you have the means, get yourself an SSD. It will be the massive improvement vs cost to your gaming experience.
