Heighten Spell + Hypnotism Question
Ok so I'm a little confused with the wording of Hypnotism. It says roll 2d4 to see how many HD of creatures you affect. My understanding is that it affects creatures level 2-8 depending on the roll; is that correct or wrong? If wrong what does HD refer to if not the level of the creature?

Secondly, if I Heighten this spell it only increases the Difficulty Class of the spell making it harder to will save against right? I am assuming this doesn't change the 2d4 roll at all; is that correct?

Edit: To add to these questions, if Heighten Spell doesn't change the 2d4 roll of creatures, is there a metamagic feat that would change this and make it higher?

when an ability says it affects "X HD of creatures" its referring to the total sum of HD of creatures that can be affected

for example lets say u use hypnotism on a group of 4 bandits each having 2 HD, and you roll a 7 on that 2d4, that mean 3 of those 4 bandits will be affected, any HD not sufficient to affect an enemy are wasted

i am not sure if empower/maximize metamagic would affect the rolls of sleep spells like hypnotism

OK. Seems like it would become useless after a certain point. That makes sense. Thank you.

You are correct; spells like sleep and hypnotism are early-game spells, and they DO become useless quickly. These spells can be a powerful part of a low-level wizard's arsenal, but I wouldn't recommend learning them as a bard or a sorcerer. For those classes, pick spells that can benefit you throughout the game.

(In normal Pathfinder rules, bards, sorcerers, inquisitors, etc. can replace a limited number of spells during their career, but that rule was never implemented in this digital conversion.)

the mod eldritch arcana adds quite a few missing pathfinder things, including replacement of sponteneous caster spells on certain level ups

I was actually looking at it on a cleric setup so replacing it is easy. Was just hoping it would be a nice long term control option.
