I've... apparently picked a side in something? What?
Spoilers ahead, obviously.

I've just about started the vanishing of my neighbor town questline, and I've also decided to take the time to finish my spectacled gnome companion's quest, engaging in some debates with "The Host".

Finishing that particular scenario and exiting the Debate map apparently triggered something else, because I suddenly received another questline where I've apparently picked sides in some Honor and... something or other debacle, and some Knights of something or other is now on my side?

Trying to do some brief googling while trying VERY hard not to spoil myself, I'm getting the impression that somehow a questline in the future somehow skipped things and triggered itself now. It's a little hard to tell when I just skim the search results while trying to not absorb spoilers, but those of you who have finished the game, could you confirm or deny this?

If so, this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. I'm so many hours in and the damn storylines break apart? I've apparently been forced to make some choice by the game, before I was even offered it, and continuing is kind of pointless since the storyline progression just got ruined.

What's up with this?

Could clarify the names here? "Honor and... something or other" and "Knights of something or other" isn't particularly helpful.

Off the top of my head, are you currently dealing with the Hellknights? Maybe you finished a Kingdom card about the Hellknights while you were doing that quest, and this is a coincidence.

You're right, I apologize. I was a bit in a hurry and didn't feel I had time to go look it up again.

The questline is "Honor and Duty" and is a Kingdom Quest, and I've apparently allied with "Mendev", and I can't recall having had any such problem or opportunity card come along. Since I've had another quest prematurely trigger - the hunting quest "An amusement for the Nobles" was triggered by accident with no explanation before - it seems like this happened without my input.

This is a very minor quest, only slightly more consequential than a typical kingdom event card. If it really did trigger out of sequence, then that's worrying because it suggests your game state is corrupted somehow, but it's probably premature to think "continuing is kind of pointless since the storyline progression just got ruined."

Since the quest does begin with a kingdom event card, is there any chance that you assigned an advisor to what you thought was a different event?

While it's definitely possible, it's somewhat unlikely. I'm a bit careful with the event cards after I missed the differences between problems and opportunities early on.

As for the rest, I gave in and read up on the quest in more detail and have pretty much come to the same conclusion. It's worrying that it triggers out of sequence, but it is minor enough that I can continue without it having too much of an effect.

I think this quest is about some of the decisions you made with either the General or the Warden, it's not some card...
