Poor Performance - Low FPS
Okay, I've tried everything, but I can't get this game to run in an appropriate way. Even when running everything on low, I still get FPS below 30 during fights, normally below 20.

Every fight in Pitax palace runs at 25-18 FPS, and there is always some lag when a big spell like firestorm or a bard's aura happens.

I have a gtx 1060 6gb, a ryzen 5 1600, and 8 gb of ram. Is not a top gear, but it should be able to run this game on low at 30 frames per second.

I've got this game during launch and this was always a problem, especially in certain areas (goblin fortress, pitax palace, battles with a lot of spells). I remember people complaining about low GPU loads, cpu threads not being used, all that stuff. I waited for each patch, going back to see if the lag issue was resolved, but it never is.

Is anyone else experiencing such poor performance? Is this an isolated case?

Your hardware is more then enough.Prob some software issue.Or hardware conflict.Try to unplug all of non critical external hardware and launch game(sometimes gamepads or non standart manipulators cause this issue)

what grafical setting do you use?start from using low on everything and see if its any better.
i have the same performance problem and its playable when i use low.

One of the updates uses ram to load faster. Go into the options and turn off faster load times. See if that helps.

I know it's a little cliche a response, but have you tried updating your video drivers? I recently got to update my own GeForce drivers to the ones that support the game specifically and it runs more smoothly to the point where I could actually finally up my resolution to my usual one I like to play games in.

Thanks for your replies!

I tried all of the above suggestions, updated my drivers, used different setting, disabled quick kingdom loading. Nothing works: exploration runs at a 30 fps pace, which is acceptable, and when combat starts and spells and bombs begin flying, the game goes to 15~23 fps. The worst thing is that changing the settings don't even do something! Low or high, performance is the same!

Did you check in the NVidia Control Panel so it doesn't use some sort of custom settings for this application that overrides the in-game settings?

Also, have you checked if you might have some screwed up Power-saving settings on or something?

(Not trying to sound hostile in any shape or form, just for the record >w<)

Thanks for the replay. It does not sound hostile at all!

I'm playing this game in a gaming desktop, so power-saving concerns are not the issue. I can currently play FF15 at a stable 60 to 50 FPS, and GTA 5 and Witcher 3 at a stable 60 FPS, but pathfinder kingmaker I get 30 fps (40 with low settings) during exploration, and 25 to 15 fps (in both low and high, especially when spells begin to fly) during combat.

Nvidia panel also does not have custom settings for pathfinder kingmaker.

I realized that my GPU load is at max 60% for this game, normally staying at 40 or even 23%. CPU load is 40%. The only place where the system can be strained is memory, since I'm using from 6gb to 7 gb of memory (I have 8).

I remember people complaining about performance issues in the pass. Maybe there was a fix and I lost it?

Try the following:

Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D settings

Power Management mode > Prefer Maximum Power

Vertical Sync > Fast

Apply Settings

In Game Options > turn off Vsync (Fast Sync needs Vsync off to work).

Did that! Thanks for the suggestion!
Now I can get a somewhat consistent 30 fps during fights (except when casting spells, when a little bit of lag drops the fps to 20~25), if playing on low.
Dunno, is this game very heavy on a system? Like, heavier then FF15 and stuff?

Most likely

Audio/GPU drivers at play (my bet is on Audio drivers)
Did you tinker with settings as well?

Hello!

Have you tried to check if logging is on? ( you can find how to turn it on/off here: https://owlcatgames.com/content/bug-report-technical )

You can try to disable "Improved kingdom loading times" and set antialiasing lower.

Sometimes Nvidia does strange things and might launch not on dedicated video card. You can check this in Nvidia control panel. Under manual settings - program settings.

If you have modern hardware with good Vulkan support, try using DXVK. It won't fix the game's poor optimization and loading times may increase (especially on first launch), but the frame rate becomes more stable. With DXVK, I now have an average of 50-60 frames in battles and locations with crowds of people, while before it was an unstable 40.

Modern hardware is probably better than the hardware that was modern almost six years ago, yes.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
