Build a Red Mage
I was toying with the idea of doing a playthrough with classes (or their nearest equivalent) from the first Final Fantasy. Obviously, Fighter/Warrior, Black Mage, White Mage, Thief, and Black Belt/Monk are straightforward, but what class or combination of classes would make for a good Red Mage? Arcane and divine caster plus martial prowess, but not the best at any.

I was thinking half Magus and half Druid, maybe throw in Mystic Theurge at some point. Maybe half Sorcerer and half Inquisitor? Bard and Ranger? What are your thoughts?

I think that's the closest.

Bard

They get healing + damage + combat prowess, but are masters of none. You could even prestige to Eldritch Knight if you want.

I went with Archaeologist, Sorcerer, Cleric, Hospitaler, Rogue, and Monk. I considered Fighter and Eldritch Scoundrel, but decided against it.

That'd be the Bard.
