convincing bartholomew to be an advisor
after he got a hissy fit he didn't want to leave and watned to pack.
so i said, listen dude, i'm sooooo sorry, stay.
and he said he accepts my apology.
and i asked him to come into my service and he said nope.
so i bought some things (don't know if it's related) and ended the conversation.
then i found out i sold him a wrong item, and entered into discussion with him again and again asked him to be part of my staff, and he immediately was delighted and said yes.
what a drama queen...

Ya. He is annoying lol. I save him from the trolls but no way am I letting him be my advisor
I always have him die...maybe I set difficulty too high.

He is tricky to save. I sprint in the room with fascinate and haste. You just gotta make sure to land a cacaphonus call before he wakes.

Just turn the damage dealt all the way down for half a minute if you really want him there for the operation. Then again, maybe it is poetic justice for him torturing the Troll.

I've found the order you have to ask him to be your advisor matters. If you ask him to be your advisor without first apologizing he will refuse you and the option will go gray as an already used response. If you then apologize he will accept, and the option to ask him to be your advisor is still grayed out but you have to select it anyway, and it gives you the other response which is accepting the job. I take him now as it's just so handy having a vendor near the command table.

Well, to me he just accepted my proposal outright. No apology necessary, not that I had anything to apologize for, it's not like I stopped his research just because Octavia threw a hissy fit at me.

I can't even find him on my game after the first time seeing him I came back and there are more trolls on his map and he's nowhere.

Wiat until the next story event pops up. Then he'll be in the basement

I found him in his research cellar after I finished the "Troll Trouble" quest.

Went to him, didn't say anything bad about his work.
Saved him.
Returned the whip.
-Hey wana be my advisor?
-Yeah sure why not.

Also I think not having Octavia helps to not piss him off.

I had Thotavia with me and she will start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if you don't help the poor murderous chaotic evil troll but you can just tell her to shut up. Didn't have any problem recruiting Bartholomew after that.

This thing seems to be one of a few places where the game doesn't add a red flag back to the map location to indicate new activity. As I've been through this many times (only once with the whip as I never pick that option), sometimes I've had someone show up in the capital room and say that we should go check on our mage friend, though others I don't recall seeing any warning. I just clear most of the troll fort then stop by Barth's on the way back to capital to switch out to Harrim, Amiri, Jubilost, and Ekun to complete troll fort and Amiri's quest. Jubi's appearance I don't remember seeing a red flag for either most of the time, I just know to go there. I think I am clearing this stuff sooner than the game puts up warnings.

I've only had to rescue him from the trolls on my first playthrough, every other after that. I finished troll trouble before the event came about that trolls are at his house to murder his ass.

Then I just stopped at his house to unload useless loot and asked him to become an advisor. easy.
