However, they're worse in Pathfinder because enemies get to save every round to resist the effects of most of them. Meaning, even if you do get lucky enough to land one, odds are the enemy will escape its effect in the next round or two. There are a couple of good ones, but for the most part they aren't worth focusing in.
Out of tutorial you can already meet enemies of level 5 (for example, whole Temple of Elk is level 5) so you can end up having nothing.
Then, I don't know how correct it is to Pathfinder rules, but, like, all Fey are immune to Compulsion at least (even level 1 Mites). I thought Fey just maybe get +4 against Mind Affecting and their immunities vary depending on their class, but seems like it's worse than that.
Half of starting area (Sycamore) are fey and insects who are immune to pretty much all Enchantment and partially, Illusion. And it only gets worse.
I almost got GGWP at level 2 by running into 4 skeletons on the road lol.
So, Enchantment ends up as a school which works 90% of 50% of the time. And your specialization slots/low level spells will eventually be completely obsolete. Enemy HD also progresses quicker than you think, a lot of enemies have extra Class levels on top of basic ones so something like "put 10 hd of enemies to sleep" will quickly mean "put 1 enemy to sleep".
When it works, it works of course, but eh. The saving grace there is Serpentine Sorcerer. They're either bugged or work as intended, but they seem to be able to use Enchant on lots of things, not just regular animals.
It's not that you should skip these spells (Confusion is nice), but playing actual Enchanter (meaning your 1, or 2 if you're Thassilonian Wizard spell slots are reserved for Enchantment spells) is trouble.
As usual, no deal with undead and constructs and others without an INT score, of which there are some around. Fey, the main enemy, are not immune to enchantments, but will is a good save for them, and many have high WIS to boot. Besides, the fey casters have often their buffs on, which can grant further protection.
I think someone at Owlcats is a big fan of fireballs and Lina Inverse.
