Faerie Dragon Pet skill bonus?

Okay, can someone tell me how this thing works? I don't see the skill bonus on any if the sheets, it doesn't appear to show up on the campsite screen... I have seen it appear once clicked on the various locations floating around and in the thrown room and stuff... Does it only work on the main character (I currently have it equipped on Octavia, no point to it on my monk/rogue/paladin...!) Does it only work when you're not on the overworld map screen and just not say it does? (There doesn't seem to be notes on the rolls you make at camp, so I can't verify whether it's actually applied there.)

Does it, I hestitate to ask, actually even work at all?

I'd like to know, since it would be useful to not fill a quick slot if it's not actually doing anything useful for me.

You equip it and it goes into your belt bar. When you activate it, it's got the little flashy thing around the square and you can see the bonus change in your character sheet while it's active.
