Is this equivalent to TOEE
Taking aside the age difference, how does this game compare to Temple Of The Elemental Evil?
They look very similar to me.

Well, for TOEE I needed about 10 hours for one playthrough....
TOEE was literally unplayable until a community patch fixed all the bugs...

Nevertheless, it was one of the better AD&D games

If they (Owlcat) stay faithful to their game, provide worthy DLC and support for the next years, then IMO this game could be what TOEE should have been.

Its not turn based if thats your question. Can get prerty close but is not.
The combat round mechanics and action economy are a bit messed up too so if you are looking to make a battlefield control warrior with reach weapons wont work as intended especially late game. Charge is seriously nerfed. It typically takes 2 to 3 rounds for a warrior to charge so that late game mobs can hit and run safely.
Also your companions dont take shares of the loot independently which is a good thing.
Pathfinder is not 3.0 neither.

It is the same in concept, because it takes a module and translates it into a computer game. There are rule differences, but D&D 3.0 is not unlike Pathfinder. Just read carefully the small print in the feats and class abilities.

Only visually maybe. TOEE was almost exclusively dungeon crawler, but here it's more about roleplaying (doing tons of quests, talking to npcs, making story changing decisions) and kingdom building. This game in spirit is more closely related to old Infinity Engine games, like Baldur's Gate. Out of the recent games Pillars of Eternity comes to mind.

The actual differences:

A lot more Role-playing in this one

Charactars and quests are far less one dimensional and rail-roady

This one flows in more of a real time than turn based while still basically being turn based

TOEE is based off of the 3.5 rules set, this one is based off of the Pathfinder rules set (More or less d&d 3.9) which is similar

This game has way more depth, is much more fun, much more unforgiving of mistakes, and much, much, much longer.
