Freebooter's Bane Permanent?

I have freebooter's bane on one of my party members. The battle is over, but the bane persists. Am I to understand the game puts a debuff on a member of my party that cannot be removed?

Lots of debuffs perist until you rest or a restoration spell. Although it says permanent it is not infact permanent.

It's permanent in the sense that it has no max duration. It will persist indefinitely until you cure it.

i think it's a bug, but it doesn't give any actual debuffs afaik (i tested a character with it, and it wasn't mentioned in the combat log's breakdown). for me it went away eventually, but maybe it happened only after the character was fully killed and respawned (it was a pet).

I tried resting, heal, and remove curse. On the other hand, quirky sorts of things are part of this game's charm. I got rid of it by going way back to before my battle with Gaetane and taking him out before he could put the finger on anyone. Cheesy tactics, but I didn't know what it could do. On normal, I probably could have just lived with it and I suspect that you guys are right that it would eventually go away. Thanks for the responses. At least I managed a workaround.

It's in the description of the ability, that it lasts until you are dead or the user applies it to someone else, iirc. Someone posted he could overwrite it with his own bane which went away when he used it on a mob. It probably does nothing, if the original NPC who used it on you is dead.

I get that, Morgian, and I couldn't see any effect, but it's still probably a bug that it doesn't disappear after the source of the condition is dead. No biggie. I found my own work around.

Create a merc or have a team mate use the ability on that character, then use it on an enemy

I did try. In fact, that I'm in this part of the game this thread is the first time I've posted in this forum might indicate that I've successfully researched other topics. I say that without rancor. Just to point out that I do search before I post. Anyhow, I like my workaround better. Just kill off Gaetane before he puts it on a character and all is well.
