Intresting, I didn't notice the diary.
Well it's odd, because, if I remember correctly, the locket has the name "Berta" on it, and later on you meet a bandit named "Bertha" (I could have those names reversed, just going on memory). I've wondered if it's a a typo and they should have the same name. But when I've talked to Bertha, there's no dialog related to the elf's fate.
