arcane archer is just a ranged variation of the magus that casts their spells in tandem with ranged attacks instead of in tandem with their melee attacks
do you think 1d4 a level is too much for a choosen element. You get my meaning when i say you when you level you can choose what elemental type to level up mirroring the rangers feat progress. it would be nice if you got a pet owl, hawk,or sprite that provide a bonus to combat but are not targetable as a fimilar. I saying to mirror the ranger but with the mage tree and give a choice of elemental arrows.
Arcane archer is a prestige class similar to what you are asking for, unfortunately is not in the game.

here is more info on arcane archer.
that is what i expected with a ranger build or somewhere close to it... its totally not this
i switched up to a fighter ranger heavy party and have complete enjoyment.
the fighter as a ranger is awesome they deal way more damage than a ranger because of advanced specializations and you get armor mitheral +1 or 3. The benefit from ranger is the pet. pets are good in this game. you get a dog your in business they have trip and in end game they can do alot of damange with lots of special attacks. the mamoth is good as well.
Would probably best be the Magus subclass that is for archery
Pure bow damage, fighter.
Good bow damage with some spells and op pet, ranger.
Touch attack sneak damage, octavia's build the arcane trickster.
Or probably the lest useful because you've only got limited damaging spells, but no sneak attack on cantrips as opposed to the arcane trickster, a pure blaster caster.
But I've spent the last 4 days designing my "Arcane Archer" for the game.
Its still not tested though and my largest concern is hit chance. hopefully it works out
As Elf I'll take.... 3 lvls Eldritch Archer (Magus) / 6 lvls Thassil Wizard Evocation/ 10 lvls Eldritch Knight prestige/ and 1 lvl fighter in the middle to end of the Eldritch knight progress.
You end up with Bab 16, and 17 feats (+Elf Spell Pen), And the ability to cast lvl 8 spells 3/day
FEATS I'll go for Many shot & Hammer the Gap, Greater Weapon focus and the Exhausting Critical chains. I also included Arcane strike as swift actions are only used on crits.
with Wizard/magus feats and leftover bonus feats you can get 4 spell centered feats and a magus Arcana (ill take Reach or Extend spell)
This build SHOULD allow you to fire your full Many shot/rapid shot barrage at the same time as casting 1 spell (or a ranged touch spell +bow dmg) with the possibility of unlocking a swift casting of another spell (or a ranged touch spell +bow dmg)
At low levels or on trash mobs you can use the low level magus spell "snowball" to add a nice little bonus to your bow damage.
So that's the Build in a nutshell.
If anyone has any input I'd love to hear it as I will be starting a play through with this build shortly
