Spell Combat With Other Classes
The wording of the Magus' spell combat and spellstrike ability makes it sound like they only work with spells from the Magus' spell list/spell book, but I've seen some other comments on here that make me think it might work to use them with spells from other classes.

Can anyone confirm if those abilities work with spells from other classes? I'm considering a level dip into Sorcerer for the Dragon Bloodline abilities and especially for 5-7 casts of lvl 1 spells, but I'm not sure if that will work with the Magus' whole "cast spells and fight" schtick. Thanks!

First, spell combat and spell strike work with any spell (spell strike works only with touch spells though, since it's made for that).

Then, don't multiclass as sorcerer. For 2 reasons. First, magus is not multiclass friendly by nature, so you have to be careful. Second, if you want to go dragon disciple, pick eldritch scion magus, the whole kit is for that, it's the magus version of the sorcerer, so that you don't have to pick sorcerer if you want to go dragon disciple (you get the spontaneous casting and the bloodline).

I have a Scaled fist monk / magus that uses spell strike just fine.

Eldritch Scion sucks, though. Super slow spell & spell slot generation, and metamagic as a full round instead of an action.

The actual question still hasn´t been answered yet and it´s an interesting one...are the spells in the magus book the same as the "regular" versions of other casters or do they just share the names and are coded differently so that they work with the magus abilities?

Thanks jazzable, that's the core of my question as opposed to whether or not multi-classing is a good idea. To be totally honest I'm considering using save editing to add a few wizard/sorc levels to be able to cast more first level spells since the limited magus slots for their most crucial spells (shield and shocking graps, mirror image, etc) drives me totally nuts. My real question is whether this will even work within the game code or if the game treats spells from other class spell books as "different" when it comes to spell combat and spellstrike.

Sajah in the first comment says that those two features work with any spells from any class, so that gives me enough optimism to make the character and give it a shot. I'll report back here after some thorough testing.

You can always use the metamagic highten spell to cast them at a higher level (or any other metamagic)

1 lvl of magus gives the ability to use magus spells from any other caster spell books with spell combat. 1 Lvl dip of magus is a great investment for any arcane caster class in this game cos it also lets you to use light armor with no arcane failure mind the free attacks.
These are clearly bugs.

Paizo FAQ states :

https://www.reddit.com/r/Pathfinder_RPG/comments/7dq6k3/ways_to_get_spell_combat_from_archetypes/

Magus, Spell Combat: What spells can I cast when using spell combat?
The relevant text of the ability is:

"As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the magus spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action (any attack roll made as part of this spell also takes this penalty)."
The spell you cast when using spell combat has to be a magus spell you know, and it must be a magus spell prepared with one of your magus spell slots.

There is however a magus arcana :

Broad Study (Ex)
Prerequisite: Magus 6, levels in another spellcasting class

Benefit: The magus selects another one of his spellcasting classes. The magus can use his spellstrike and spell combat abilities while casting or using spells from the spell list of that class. This does not allow him to cast arcane spells from that class’s spell list without suffering the normal chances of arcane spell failure, unless the spell lacks somatic components.

You would need this feature and lvl 6 magus to cast from other caster spellbooks.
In this game you can do it with 1 lvl of magus for free.

I hope this answers the original question.
Whether this would be fixed or not is another question.

Any sensible combination of
1 Magus / X Arcane caster / Y Arcane trickster / Z Eldritch Knight would deal twice the damage of its closest contender and is capable of soloing the game hard settings.
