Ranger Pet Lvl?

Im lvl 9 Ranger with no multi class. I have boon companion my pet is only lvl 8. Is this a bug or normal?

Your animal companion won't ever be max level. At level 20, your animal companion will be level 16. That's how they're designed.

Those are the pnp rules on which its loosely based. Lvl of the pet being its HD
Sadly you cant give them feats as you should, then again they seem good enough as they are.

Kinda bogus about the feats though...POE2 has plenty of pet oriented feats associated with Ranger.

ok, so boon companion raises ranger's pet to main level-1? that's useful. normally ranger's pet is ranger level-4, and boon's description says something along the lines that the pet level will be computed as if your pet owner level (ranger or druid) was same as you total character level. so if you are rogue 3, ranger 5, your pet would be 3+5-4. but if it boosts ranger's pets from -4 to just -1 it's pretty great.

It raises the pets level 3 or 4. And the pet only levels up with classes that have pets.

So of you do ranger, boon companion, then 3 fighter, you'll pet not level up those fighter levels

Boon Companion does NOT directly increase your pet's level. It calculates your pet's level and such as if your effective druid level were 4 higher, up to your character level. It's only useful for rangers and animal domain characters (whose effective druid level is their class level -3) and people who multiclass away from the class that provides their pet. But it can only be taken once, so if you multiclass too far away, it's still mostly pointless.
