For when you gain spell levels, check out the SRD. For example, here is the cleric:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/
Observe that they get second level spells at level 3.
So for whatever class you're playing, search that on the SRD.
sorcerer every even level starting at 4
alchemist, bard, inquisitor, magus every 3 levels
paladin, ranger every 3 levels with first level spells at level 4
Thank you so much. God I wish this was just explained.. I mean if it was pnp sure, I'd have a book to look at but yikes what a headache.
I was going to multi-class my crusader a little, but perhaps it's best that I don't. I just wanted a Cleric that wasn't terrible. Tristian not having Healing Domain (or a second domain for that matter) and not being able to wear armor annoyed me so much that I made a Cleric pc, maybe I should've just made it a Herald Caller. Sigh.
They have:
I missed that, thanks. Ugh I wish at least one of these companions were good at their role. I havent started my game all day, the last two characters I made I had to put on hold over crippling bugs...
Now I'm in a loop. Maybe I'll just pc a herald caller (Healing Domain). Level 1 merc a pure druid, then make do with Val/Alira/Ekundayo/Octavia and say to hell with a bard.
Anyway this is offtopic, sorry.
Thanks for the info though it helps. At least you guys are friendly enough :)
Tristian is not a good build and his speciality makes it worse, accuentating the no armor but having pretty low dex. I accept the faults of most the companion builds but I feel his is the worst.
There seem to be too much temptation for new players to do "shiny" builds rather than just play what works - plain Cleric, plain Ranger etc. The other stuff is much better when you know the game (replay).
I hear you, I almost finished the game the first time, lost all progress to a Kingdom bug finalk act.. Got to act 4 the second time, realised half my feats literally didn't work, put it on hold ready to restart it when they're fixed.
Now I'm just lost for what to do. Maybe you're right, maybe a pure cleric would be best. I do like the Herald Caller though, the question there would be do I go animal domain and sacrifice healing domain to really take advantage of its free feats or not.
I suppose if I pair it with a druid then pure cleric is better. If I want it to wear armor and stay close I could always put two levels in to paladin for the CHA bonus to saving throws to help out and still have good spell access.
I don't really have recommendations for you there. There are things I'm tempted to try but resisting for the moment.
The spells keep me on the straight and narrow as far as dipping. I have Harrim as a druid but haven't taken him out yet. There are definately some good spells there, though.
But in any case I hope this time works well for you. I must applaud your persistance and patience to be restarting again. It's a nice change from the rants that one sees here and the all to easy route of giving up. Have fun and happy adventuring!
I opted to go with the druid pc, I created two custom adventurers while they're cheap incase I want a break from companions, or just for a few choice encounters to help get through them.
One is a priest, one is a rogue-like. Finesse training may well be completely bugged out but they still do insane damage even without Dex conversion. As i've experienced first-hand. Can't wait to experience the full power of that when they finally fix it.
Priest and Druid are both vanilla and will not multiclass. You were right about what you said.
EDIT: So, with the exception of 2nd level spells, you get access to a new level of spells every third Magus level - so 3rd levels at 7, 4th at 10, 5th at 13, and finally 6th at 16.
Ranger and Paladin: 4, 7, 10, 13
Inquisitor, Magus and Alchemist: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16
Wizard, Cleric and Druid: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17
Sorcerer: 1, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18
Rogue(Eldritch Scoundrel) is treated as a Magus for spell progression.
