Just spent 12000 for a mithral full plate
....aaaaaand the game considers it a heavy armor, not a medium one.

Since when?

I bought but don't use it on my Sorc because it's a bit too heavy but I only have medium armor prof and can equip it.

It has always required Heavy Armor Proficiency to properly use mithral full plate (though in PnP you could equip armor even if you weren't proficient, but you took huge penalties that made it worse than not wearing any armor at all, in this game I don't think you even can equip anything if you aren't proficient, but whatever).

The main benefit of being made of mithral is that it dramatically improves the Armor Check Penalty, Arcane Spell Failure chance and Max Dex Bonus of the armor.

https://www.d20pfsrd.com/equipment/special-materials/#TOC-Mithral

Notice the part where it says:

Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations. Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor.

In other words, mithral full plate still reduces your movement rate just like heavy armor does because medium armor incurs the same movement speed reduction. The only real benefit of heavy armor being made of mithral is that it's lighter against your encumberance limits and can accomodate very dexterous characters much better.

I think there might be a bug in this game in which the armor's actual weight as an item isn't correctly reduced, though I could be wrong about that because I haven't looked too closely. I'm much happier wearing adamantine full plate for that sweet sweet DR 3/-

If you're buying it for Val... don't. She's a Fighter and already reduces the ACP and improves the MaxDex of her armor far beyond what her dexterity score is really capable of making good use out of. Harrim is never going to that much dex.

Yes I fell for the same trap - bit miffed, my Amiri doesn't even get 10 bonus move from medium armour with it.

Edit: Thanks Aunty - totally missed that part. - Oh wait, thats not in game. Still, cheers anyway.

Compare the numbers of your mithral armor against an otherwise identical set of non-mithral armor and come back and tell us what's different.

From the Pathfinder SRD:

Heavy armors are treated as medium, and medium armors are treated as light, but light armors are still treated as light. This decrease does not apply to proficiency in wearing the armor. A character wearing mithral full plate must be proficient in wearing heavy armor to avoid adding the armor’s check penalty to all his attack rolls and skill checks that involve moving. Spell failure chances for armors and shields made from mithral are decreased by 10%, maximum Dexterity bonuses are increased by 2, and armor check penalties are decreased by 3 (to a minimum of 0).

It's lighter and has a lesser arcane spell failure penalty.

It does explain this to you in the item description.

Why buy weapons or armor in games like this one? Traditionally, the best items are those you get from quests and bosses.
DoppelGangster Oct 10, 2018 @ 5:42am
it's because that mithral full plate is bLOateD aswell you FOOL!

if you want to buy stuff for a specific character, you should click the charcater you want to put it on to see if they can even use it.

The mithril plate is a great set of armour. With the dex bonuses, it's the equivalent of +3 full plate which you won't see for a long time. Also, if you give it to a fighter with the armour-mastery ability, you'll be able to run at full speed in it at level... 3? Fighters can't normally do that in heavy armour until level 7.
