A spell penetration check is a d20 + caster level + [other bonuses] (e.g. the Spell Penetration feat bonus), vs. the targets SR (e.g. "SR 30"), meet or beat in order for the spell to take -any- effect, otherwise it fizzles and the spell is lost.
Except it shouldn't include your casting stat.
Purely : d20 + caster level (may be not equal your char level!) + misc bonuses vs target SR.
As for a character's spell resistance, no idea - but I'd wager they'd show it somewhere close to the saving throws.
Nah. Chars spell resistance is either:
1) Static XX value (mostly from gear/spells).
2) Equal to [Char level + YY] (mostly from rare racial traits / feats).
