Extremely huge pre-historic owlbear in destroyed capital
After freeing some prisoners from a goblin fort, Kersten told us the capital is under attack by monsters. Immediately my team went back to find the city destroyed and to fight 2 dozen huge monsters. After we killed the last one my team feels victorious, but exhausted, can't rest and has no supplies or magic left. There is no way to leave the map. As instructed I go to speak with captian of the guard...and a super huge pre-historic owl bear appears. No way to defeat (tried like 10 times using all sorts of strategies), only Jhod comes to help, none off the heroes appear...still no way to leave the map.

I feel totally trapped. Any suggestions how to get out of the mess? I could go back to earlier save, but I guess I have to save the capital somehow?!?

Use fire. And acid.

did you find any mercenaries in the s end of town? or are there still guards scattered throughout the town? I would suggest kiting the creature into the various groups of npc's if so.

If you are really stuck, crank the difficulty down to minmum. Also throw acid and fire bombs if you have any. You might have scrolls and wands you usually ignore, use them.

I had no problem smashing this thing to pieces. My suggestion is to use buff spells (if you have any left, if not all those potions of Blur, Heroism, Barkskin, Mage Armor, and all the wands you've gathered are just burning a hole in your pocket).

Buff up before you talk to the guard, that way you can go straight into the fight without any trouble.

I guess it depends on your build. You really want to go into the game with a mindset of spell conservation, and rely on melee rangers as much as possible and/or potions etc. in a dungon. This is like an outdoor dungeon so mayhap you had overkill or tried to save too many people too quickly.

Any damage such as EH mentioned should work, esp. if you lower the difficulty since you may need to at this point.

Also, note in situations like this you can generally rest BEFORE the event. The game penalize you (cheesing aside) if you go to one place vs. another (here: Tomb vs. Capital) or rest too often in *some* cases but if you went in without a rest no wonder you are having a tough time! :)

I rested before, but used up all buffs, spells, etc. for the first wave of monsters. Guards were 90% killed in first waves. I didn't meet mercanaries, only looters who I scared away...anyway I started again just before the goblin fortress (which triggered the event). First I try to level up more...and propably I am going to kill the prisoners next time (as they seem to become the monsters). In 2nd try I will consider your recommendations, in worst case I temporarily lower the difficulty. Thanks!

2nd try I started before the goblin fortress and killed all prisoners (which did not reduce the amount of monsters in town later). Then I went to kill the blossom plant which was the source of the monster sickness (you need a torch to kill an immortal owlbear!). I got a level up and a figure which allows to summon a wyvern once a day. When I went back to save the capital I triggered the prehistoric owlbear right at the beginning. Most guards were still allive and I summoned the wyvern and 3x5 sceleton warriors. The owlbear was done within 30 seconds :-)) ...unfortunately Jhod had a dying scene, but that's fine with me.

Jhod survived in my playthrough, I know you said you dont care but consider going back and saving him, I read here that in later chapters you really need as much advisor options availabe as possible. That's as much as I can say without spoilers.

If nothing else Jhod makes good comic relief even when not an advisor. :)
The drama!

Learn the game 1st if you feel like you have no chance you totally skilled/played the game wrong...this huge owlbear thing is super easy. Took me only seconds to kill it.
