Dwarven Ruins and Companions - Who to bring? [spoilers]
Do I really have to take Harrim, Jubilost, /and/ Ekundayo to the Dwarven Ruins? I normally use none of them. Does taking Jubilost matter at all? Can I bring Harrim back afterward to look at stuff? Can I avoid killing Ekun's nemesis and bring him back later? What are the downsides of not bringing each of them?

Harrim you can't do his quest till you actually beat the place and futhermore you can only complete his quest if don't spare the trolls or kobolds. So you can just bring him there once you complete the place (assuming you don't spare them).

Ekun is the one you have to bring with you. He needs to kill a troll that is to your left side on the first floor of the place. But once you kill the guy you dont need him anymore. That being said shortly after the guy you get a bow "Devour of Metal" that simply destroys most everything(and it does acid damage as well so really good for the trolls) and with his pet as an off tank(don't worry if he dies they come back after you rest) he is really usefull (and his dreary personality really grows on you, i wasn't planning on using him at first but he ended up being one of my main party memebers). Not sure what happens if you kill the boss without him since i didnt do that.

The main problem is that if you ally yourself with the dungeon bosses, they'll kick you out for 'renovation' and you fail Ekun and Harrim's quests. Jubilost you only need to enter the exterior map with, I think it can still be done afterwords.

If you plan to kill or banish you can come back, just don't ally with anyone.

That said, you should probably take Jubilost and Ekun. You get an acid bow for Ekun in the dungeon, and Jubilost has those acid flasks. You'll need them.

You only need to bring Jubilost to the Dwarven Ruins location, you don't have to actually enter them with him. If you have time, you can bring Jubilost with you after you have cleared the dungeon.

Harrim has interactions throughout the ruins, with the final one being at the very end AFTER the bossfight. I believe all of the interactions with Harrim can be done after you have cleared out the dungeon. There is an option where you can autofail his quest, however. I will not tell you what it is, but you will probably guess what it is when you get there.

Ekun's nemesis can be avoided, but it requires strict knowledge of the area to do so. I recommend you bring him along.

All these things being said, both Jubilost and Ekun are purposefully built to deal with the monsters in this chapter, and are also two of the better built companions of the game. Harrim is the only questionable choice, but he has such strong ties to the area, that it is quite enjoyable (as much as he is) to bring him.
I brought Jubilost to the ruins later on, I brough Ekun to kill the boss, he's very powerful.
I havent helped Harrim yet

You don't need Ekun. You can kill the troll and he will acknowledge that he's upset you denied him the kill. But he also is greatful you killed him and warms up a little to your character.

Jubilost just needs to see the site. Ekun just needs to know the troll died. And Harrim is the only one that is needed all the way through due to the various reactions he has.

Oh good to know about Ekun, I haven't actually tried using him, when I was deciding which class to pick for my main, I was particularly interested in pet classes and I had read that ranger wasn't that good compared to the others. I've just been assuming Ekun would have similar issues. (My main is a Sacred Huntsman)
And yea I knew Jubilost with his acid bombs would be useful but he annoys me and so far haven't had any trouble with the fire trolls between Amari with the acid axe and using lightning bolt on Octavia.

Ekun is so good against the trolls that it is almost madness not to take him through the whole dungeon. Jubilost can get Acid bombs and gets a ring in there as well I think that lets him throw MORE BOMBS. Acid bomb barrage baby. Edit: Nope, that is a Bokken gift. I got all mixed up. Time for more coffee. But there is a chance you get this ring before you do Troll Trouble.

Harrim is the only one that I wish I did not have to take. I prefer Tristan as my healer. But there are some cool Heavy Maces in there.

Ekun, Harrim and Jubilost. All three are well-equiped to deal with whatever is in that dungeon.

From what I seen unless your forced to have characters with you. You don't need them through the quest related area, as usually it will force you to have them if it is critical that they be present.

The trouble with Rangers is that they get the pet late, so it doesn't scale well, unless you invest a feat in it. Ekun has invested said feat, so his pet is as good as yours. He is also an archer specialist, and as Ranger, he has (among others) Trolls as favored enemy. He is purposefully built to defeat trolls, and you likely will not find or build a better character than him to defeat the trolls.

Ekun an excellent ranger and his wolf companion is a tripping machine which is very useful as a way to disable enemies. The devourer of metal bow can carry him for most of the came as it does very high damage. He's one of the more well built companions.

they need to fix/change this. why should i fail at a companion quest just because I want to give peaceful kobolds a home???

plus you sshould/need to take octavia with you as she has special dialog with the whip, I didnt have rog with me but im sure he will as well. octavia also has dialog with tartuk.

jublinost can be removed after 20 feet into the place BUT he has funny special dialog with tartuk where he says ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.... just like that. its super funny.

valerie has dialog but its of the chaotic evil variety, which is not to her character so I purposely let her behind (but almost always use her with her 38 ac)

didnt notice any dialog with amiri or linzi so I dont think they are needed.

never take jaethal with me at all so I dont know about any of her dialog at all... just dont like her, but I did the lawful evil thing and allowed her to keep her new undead pet :D

harrim is a must and tristian has agreeable dialog with octavia with tartuk.

so my final team, that I rarely used was:

Myself, Harrim (only front line which was harsh), jub, oct, tristian and ekun,. but to get the full whip dialog (and nto so much pleads for tartuk) you could take rog....

Not important. I didn't bring her along, and their companion quests seem to be progressing just fine.

Pretty much everyone has some comments. Linzi, for instance, has something to say if you allied with the Sootscales earlier.
