I try to stack them as much as possible, and then I move people through areas a medusa died single file. You know, because of the running in place bug, so it's not ticking 3-5 times everytime each party member steps on the boundary, resulting in 20+ ticks each to get past what takes 2-3 ticks single file...
They need to fix the layers; I think what's happening is the "alternate" versions exist in templated forms, so the medusae and the swarms are alive, and this creating a sort of super position where every encounter effect is being stacked and even if you clear out the two dimensions you can get to, the platonian dimensions persist.
I'm pretty sure the staggers happen at spots where there is a dimensional barrier in the other phase, by the way, which is why it seems like its random. Also the phantom swarms stagger you, of course. Pro-tip, walk around the edge of that room with the tree's, and you can avoid the invisible swarms (after you've killed the real ones)-- this is partly why I think its a template-overlap issue, because the spawn points seems to be where you take swarm damage, not random or where the swarms actually died etc.
The whole save-file structure is a mess, so it's really easy for things to bleed into areas they shouldn't and persist when they shouldn't. I have a torch with the icon from a short sword (just one) because of some leaked memory from having too much stuff on me at once I'm guessing.
Also, nothing seems to cure petrify. I'm assuming there will be a way to fix them in the epilogue if you steal Nyrissa's power or something, but I haven't finished yet. These damn Wild Hunt Monarchs who summon immortal copies were giving me a hell of a time, but now that I have three casters stacking Disintegrate (one of the only reliable spells to finish them off), I've almost cleared out all the nests.
This truly seems to be a bug. I have not found a way to get around this either.
As an aside: At this point, I’d prefer a load screen (the game is full of them anyway) between different area version instead of this overlapping mess.
Plus, the maps look visually almost identical: I never know which one I’m one!
Or just both areas next to each other on the same map but properly separated.
Yes, the map would look even more confusing, but at least you shouldn’t have overlapping and invisible encounters that way.
