Prone characters might as well be dead
So, Amari is doing her usual thing...taking on three dire wolves at once, when she gets hit by one of them. On hit, seemingly without a combat manuver check, she gets knocked prone. Well thats fine, until she tries to get up. The developers forgot to tell her to roll 5 feet, then get up and I cant command her to move while prone. Now three attacks of opportunity, RIP Amari. FIX THIS!!!

You do realize that in pathfinder while prone, crawling 5ft provoked attacks of opportunity as well, right? you couldn't 5ft step while prone, which is why tripping was so effective. there would still be three attacks of opportunity no matter what she did.

problem is when the attacks of opportunity cause prone too........

If the AoO's cause prone, somebody ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the game design, cause by pathfinder rules, you can't trip someone with an attack of opportunity triggered by someone standing up, as the AoO technically resolves before the person stands up

I used to think Attacks of Opportunity in Divinity: Original Sin 2 were bad. Then I played Pathfinder: Kingmaker..

Wolves get a free trip when they land an attack. ♥♥♥♥ is harsh.

Yea Aoos can proc trip in pathfinder if their tied to an attack landing.

Yes, but any attack of opportunity that was prompted by someone standing up CANNOT TRIP, as the attack of opportunity resolves before they stand up.
Q: Does tripping some standing up cause them to stay prone or lose their move-action? This is known as ‘Trip Locking’ on the paizo forums.

A: (Official FAQ 8/13/10) No. The attack of opportunity is triggered before the action that triggered it is resolved. In this case, the target is still prone when the attack of opportunity occurs (and you get the normal bonuses when making such an attack). Since the trip combat maneuver does not prevent the target’s action, the target then stands up.

A: (Jason Bulmahn 7/9/10) You can use your AoO to trip a creature that is standing up from prone, but it has no effect, since the AoO is resolved before the action is completed, meaning that the creature is still prone. Once the AoO resolves, the creature would stand up normally.

Wolves have an innate trip attempt whenever they hit you, as a free action.

Yeah, but the attack resolves as if you were still prone, ergo you cant be tripped if your already on the ground. plus, if you want to get technical, pathfinder rules do not allow for free actions to be taken outside of your turn, so technically it doesn't (by rules as written for the tabletop) work for any attack of opportunity.

Some free actions explicitly state that they can be used outside of your turn; so RAW- there are free actions that you can take during an AoO. The other points still stand though- tripping someone while prone is pointless since the effects are resolved before the movement. (This thread is 6~ years old. I'm not crazy.)
