What does HD mean?
It has some effect on sleep and fear but what is it in the first place ?

Stands for Hit Dice, basically it means Level

Just confirming it is Hit DIce. Higher level the more you have so the sleep spell works best on lower level bad guys.

Individual stats, also you can view it in the chat log.

You get 1 hit dice per level, so HD is your level. Works the same with most humanoid npcs but some creatures will have a higher number of HD has part of their race.
