Steam or GOG version?
I've had a look at both the store pages and can't see any difference, is there any reason to buy this game on GOG instead of Steam?

Having watched some lets play videos, wish I'd pre-ordered :D

Thanks

It comes down to how much control you want over the game that is installed on your hard drive.

Do you want to be able to choose what version of the game you want to run, be able to choose to update the game, be able to choose rollback to a previous version, do you want to have your own backup of the game to install offline, then GoG version is the way to go.

So I purchased the imperial edition on GOG and I'm still missing in game items.

It doesn't seem like Owlcat games visit the GOG support forums, as I've not seen a response from a dev / owlcat there.

It seems multiple people who purchased (I did not pre-order and am on Win 10 64bit) the noble, royal and imperial editions are missing the bonus in game items.

It seems steam users have an extra DLC for the missing items and GOG users do not have that DLC.

I raised a support email with GOG on 01 Oct regarding the missing DLC and still have not had a response back from them.

I've posted on both gog & steam (including the steam pathfinder bug forum) forums regarding the issue and not had an official response back from devs / owlcat and so today I've emailed owlcat.

Did I make a mistake ordering from GOG? If some steam users have the bonus items but none of the GOG users have them perhaps I should try to get a refund(given that GOG have not delivered all the items I purchased) from GOG and purchase on Steam?

I'm interested in peoples experiences with the missing bonus content (I'm missing the signet ring and belt, Ember the red panda was present and other DLC's are listed on my GOG account) on both GOG & Steam to try to determine which platform it would be best to purchase new / recently released games from in the future.

Thanks.

GOG version doesn't have steam DRM so you can just toss it on any computer and without the internet and away you go.

Pretty good for single player games, however GOG has had issues with multiplayer games unfortunately, many developers don't want to let people play multiplayer without a DRM check pass first....

Also GOG Galaxy is a windows exclusive program which is quite unfortunate, not sure why CDPR haven't released it for Linux and Mac yet (Linux is my pref OS if a game runs under it)

Well, when I started the game on release day on Steam I didn't get anything at all from the chest at Olegs. I made a new character in version 1.03 I think and then I got the items. Later on I heard some people creating new characters in version 1.06 didn't get their items, but had gotten them on earlier characters. So it might be a bug introduced by some hotfix, but I'm really just guessing here.

The biggest issue with GOG is the patch delays that happen infrequently. Usually it's best to wait with a purchase if you expect it's still going to be patched regularly. (Worst case some patches never arrive but that's much rarer)

21 days after I purchased the game, an update on the missing DLC from GOG forum users . . .

Seems missing DLC / items is now fixed for customers that pre-ordered / Kickstartered on GOG, they now have the missing DLC and in game items. Not sure if they still have to do the workaround to access the bonus portraits or not.

However, for people like myself that purchased a premium imperial edition on GOG after go live, I'm still missing the DLC / in game items. Lets hope it gets fixed soon for the rest of us.

I prefer GOG. Steam's installer keeps kicking me out. Im here because Steam has a more active forum.

Just updating to say on GOG, for me on windows the missing DLC issue is now fixed. It is also fixed for GOG customers that pre-ordered.
The GOG customer service I've received over last few days is great and I'm very happy.

Gog Patches are fairly consistent. It depends on the game. Deadfire and Kingmaker gog gets the patches at the same frequency as steam.

Some of gog patches are smaller than steams due to steam having odd requirements when patching games.

And Galaxy can be a bit buggy with DLC's. It has its ups and downs but tend to prefer GoG over steam if it can be helped. Since Steam has its own shady aspects

dont know how it is at other games, i have only two on GoG, witcher and pathfinder.. but i can tell you.. they patch the game to the same time as on steam here... at pathfinder kingmaker there is no delay. and IF... max 5 minutes what i experienced.... AND.... the patchsize is ALOT smaller on GoG, dont know why...

but the delaything... there is no big delay for this game with Patches

One issue there though, i heard some people complain about that for this specific game, is that they only keep the latest patch for non-Galaxy downloads and if you miss one you have to redownload the repackaged full game to get the patches, which is a huge download for some people. Not an issue if you use Galaxy of course

If you get it on GoG, you own the game. If you get it on Steam, it's easier to refund, but you're subject to steam's policies.

If you get it on GOG you control the game, you don't own it. You're still subject to policies on GOG, it's still a license.

Well, that doesn't surprise me at all for the Witcher, since that's made by the owners of GOG. And yes, from reading on the forums Pathfinder seems to be updated on GOG the same time as Steam.
