The problem with weapon Focus/Specialization in this setting
Is that they require the player to have GREAT foreknowledge of what weapons are currently in the game and when and if they are acquirable. You may be tempted to weapon focus Amiri in bastard swords right? Because she starts with a decent one, only to find out that theres like 2 good bastard swords in the whole game. Whereas "longsword" for example, has generally been a safe bet because theres usually lots of longswords. It can get worse though...you can specialize in something like the Tongi or something similiar, of which im sure that there may be 1 of in the game, if even that.

In PnP, this isnt so much an issue because the DM can inject tailored items into the party...In this kind of setting though, its just poor design. With no player modding available to inject new items on the horizon, this "feature" is extremely dated.

That is a problem in all cRPGs that don't feature crafting. POE2 was a major example of that. Tons of epic items of every type you could imagine... if you only imagine swords.

Thanks for the warning, glad I saved before I levelled my party up, your right, that is yet another poor oversight, there needs to be plenty of weapons, of different types, or some of the weapon types should be removed. like the bastard sword. not much point having that if there are only 2 good versions.

Somany choices, but seems rather forced.

Its how it is in the table top. You either hold off on it and focus on other things or take a chance with the feats.

There should be a chance of finding +1 to +5 of every weapon type in game. And I'm certain they each have a +10 equivalent each. The question becomes will you find them.

This is true, but players/GMS have a fairly easy time injecting new content into that game. Some mods are simply QOL things, but some are most definitely needed. If there were the capability existing, id already be at work making sure there were some viable low, mid and high level items of each type, and not just weapons....since shield and armor focus are now a thing.

This is why you don't select those feats on a first time through the game. There are plenty of other options and Amiri isn't exactly swimming in feats to begin with. Stick to power attack, cleave, etc, until it becomes clear if shops continue to stock higher quality weapons.

Another consideration is keeping your character flexible to bypass damage reduction. In pnp Pathfinder, I always encourage my martial players to keep a variety of weapon types on them.

thing is mind, if you click on recomended setting, (at the bottom, green button) it has this in option in the list only) if this is a bad setting to choose, then the game needs to be tweeked so it displays something else. I've leveled up both a fighter and a pally, and get the above option in both for recommended settings.

that seems to be a game fault then, otherwise, its too easy to waste feat points on something that isn't a good idea early on.

Maybe all of the weapon types are well represented then? The game may know better than us! I'm not that far in yet!

Well...let us know when you find that +5 artifact Tongi:)

I'm confused I thought there is crafting in this game? Like you get artificers to your kingdom?
Wizard Sep 27, 2018 @ 7:57pm
Agree, these named weapon feats need to get have a tool tip included.

Did you say that weapon specialization is a trap and cleave is a good investment? Like, really? A standard action to attempt to attack two adjacent enemies which shouldn't be simultaneously alive if you've got a raging, full-attacking barbarian next to two enemies? Perhaps I'm wrong, but that seems like suspect advice on its face.

probably not a good idea to specialize in the Gnome Hook

Are you sure though? People have no trouble moving tens of thousands of gold in magical weapon and wonderous items through a trading post on the edge of bandit-infested lands. And they apparently think there's a demand for arbitrarily enchanted gnome hooks. Just saying you can never say never.
SpiralRazor Sep 27, 2018 @ 10:56pm
I asked some pathfinder players i know that are local just now about the Gnome Hook....they said "whats a Gnome Hook?"

Something tells me there is no +5 Vorpal Gnome Hook in the game.

Also, you can specialize in "claw" and other bizarre stuff, even if your class will never have access to them.
