Items - Keep or Sell list
Many of these kinds of games have a use in crafting/etc for the trinkets and doodads you pick up. It seems starting out like anything that's not a weapon/armor/utility item has a description ending in "merchants would pay well for this", which almost seems like it's just a useless, sellable item description, a grey 'junk' text if you will. However.. I see this description on skinned animal hides and gems as well.

For those of us who are unfamiliar with the later parts of the game.. what can we absolutely kill, and what should we hang on to long-term because it will have a use?

For example - books are heavy.. but sometimes informative (the first one I found speaks of food.. does it enable recipies in camping, or is it 100% lore/vendor?) Do we just kill them at shops, or do they serve a purpose? What about gems, skinned hides, Insence, etc..

Let's get a list going, I can edit this periodically to include item types people have added info about. In a game of encumberance and as the kind of person who loots everything and ends up beating a game with all of my consumables safe and sound, unused, in my bag.. I need this ;)

No one has any input? I got to the point where i started selling all books.. cant find a point for them.. they're just too heavy to keep lugging around when they pile up.. I Also use the button that auto sells all the junk... now if only i knew when i had enough pieces of special items cause i have so many and cant figure out how to do anything with them even after the storyteller guy says what its for...

Or someone discovered that you can actually storage stuff in Oleg's Trading Post?? I can delay that to later, but can someone please tell me how to unload bunch of crappy armor\weapons from my inventory??

Edit : Just tried to keep my stuf at the chest nearby the bed, and it seems that when you try to go to sleep - it doesn't disappear. ALSO, when you keep stuff there, and go outside of Oleg's trading post, and come back and back, and saw that the items kept in there, and do not disappear (Although when you exit the trading post, it asks you whether you want to get them). I hope the game will remember that and will keep my items safe in that chest.. best travels for me X]

I also have no idea how books work... I have been wondering if they do anything at all. You can not use them, read them or anything like that at the moment (where I am at in the game).

Any of the items with a goldish border that mention a 'collector' you want to hold on to. You can turn them in for a ton of money and eventually items when you start your kingdom, to a particular new NPC in your throne room.

Still don't know if books do anything. Perhaps update your encyclopedia/bestiary

I heard Alchemist books are usefull for some quest. Till now all items on merchants are not updated after selling, so you can buy later!!?
Dawid Oct 1, 2018 @ 12:46pm
no crafting in this game.

Books are mostly just flavor text, aside from some quest-specific ones (hold onto any volumes of Transmutation you might come across); likewise, items with a gold border have some use, either in quests or for the storyteller that comes in Chap. 2

So animal skins are vendor trash in this game?
Greb Oct 1, 2018 @ 12:56pm
When offering stuff to the merchant, click the gear, tick all three options, then click "Offer"

Most of what ends up being offered is vendor trash - but you should pick through it to make sure anything you want to keep wasn't accidentally included, such as dinosaur bones and diamonds, etc.

By default this won't offer up any +1 weapons or items with enchantments on them, scrolls, potions or any useful stuff. It'll simply purge your inventory of the useless junk. You can count on it not being needed - and vendor inventories don't reset anyway, so if you do all your selling to one specific vendor you'll be able to fish out what you've lost...just don't sell anything to Enneo, heh heh.

You can't craft anything with skins, no. They're just bonus cash for someone having a Nature skill.

That's sad. You'd assume skins and gems would be of some use. So.. I can't even try to have a specific weapon, I'm stuck with what randomly appears in weapons/armor on the vendors?

It's funny being a dex rapier magus, and every rapier that drops gives me that ability to use dex bonus for damage (agile?) plus I found a necklace for it. That's great.. how about an acidrapier and I can use the necklace :/

afaik you don't lose anything you sell, so you can always go back and rebuy them if you need them
Aeternum Oct 2, 2018 @ 2:20am
Diamonds and bones shouldnt be automatically offered to the merchant. They are not trash. I sold quite a few of them without realizing it.

They also have the gold border. I think they missed out on a bit of fun with crafting. That being said, they'd have to find a nice way to balance it.. in 3.5 iirc there's an xp cost associated with crafting, and spell requirements, but you could easily 'sacrifice' a companion for that.. and the game already balances out companion xp/level with your main.. so... it'd almost have to be just materials+tons of gold.

All loot is hand placed except for random encounters'. Meaning, no such thing as random loot.

Vendor inventory doesn't change either.

Crafting exists, but is done by NPC artisans. You can miss or kill them, or they can bug out and die. Bokken is one (alchemy), Dragn (armorsmith) is another.
