Edit : Just tried to keep my stuf at the chest nearby the bed, and it seems that when you try to go to sleep - it doesn't disappear. ALSO, when you keep stuff there, and go outside of Oleg's trading post, and come back and back, and saw that the items kept in there, and do not disappear (Although when you exit the trading post, it asks you whether you want to get them). I hope the game will remember that and will keep my items safe in that chest.. best travels for me X]
I also have no idea how books work... I have been wondering if they do anything at all. You can not use them, read them or anything like that at the moment (where I am at in the game).
Still don't know if books do anything. Perhaps update your encyclopedia/bestiary
Most of what ends up being offered is vendor trash - but you should pick through it to make sure anything you want to keep wasn't accidentally included, such as dinosaur bones and diamonds, etc.
By default this won't offer up any +1 weapons or items with enchantments on them, scrolls, potions or any useful stuff. It'll simply purge your inventory of the useless junk. You can count on it not being needed - and vendor inventories don't reset anyway, so if you do all your selling to one specific vendor you'll be able to fish out what you've lost...just don't sell anything to Enneo, heh heh.
You can't craft anything with skins, no. They're just bonus cash for someone having a Nature skill.
It's funny being a dex rapier magus, and every rapier that drops gives me that ability to use dex bonus for damage (agile?) plus I found a necklace for it. That's great.. how about an acidrapier and I can use the necklace :/
All loot is hand placed except for random encounters'. Meaning, no such thing as random loot.
Vendor inventory doesn't change either.
Crafting exists, but is done by NPC artisans. You can miss or kill them, or they can bug out and die. Bokken is one (alchemy), Dragn (armorsmith) is another.
