Bracers of armor don't stack with vanilla armor?!
Am i missing something here? What's the point of having bracers if they don't stack with regular vanilla armor? Bracers would always protect your body a bit better when worn with a chainmail vest for example.

Bracers of armor are intended to provide the benefit of armor to classes which cannot wear armor, like monk, or sorcerer/wizards.

Both items provide an Armor Bonus, and bonuses of the same type don't stack in this game. Keep in mind that armor interferes with spell casting and Monk mechanics encourage you not to wear any. Bracers of Armor allow those kind of characters to gain an armor bonus to AC, at a higher cost than if you just wore normal armor.

Ok, so i'm not missing anything. It still really doesn't make sense when you could be naked with some high level bracers on and get the same protection as a low level full-body armor :P

Magic item. They're providing the equivalent of the Mage Armor spell, at varying magnitudes.

This is from the RPG.

For example, a mage cant use a full plate without actually getting major arcane casting failure, this means no mage would ever do so.

On the other hand, there is no arcane failure for the bracers.

hay, most rpg systems have the monk lose benifits by wearing armor, cant do much if its meta for monks to be nudists

It's magic! And if it follows D&D, there should be some bracers (and rings) of protection that do add to armor class if you wear them with armor.

Yeh, just wanted to get the rules straight. I've played RPGs where trinkets etc don't stack, but not bracers have zero effect when worn in addition to standard armor. I like rules to have a little bit of real world sense i guess :)
So the nudist with bracers build is a thing now :D
