Animal Companion Troubles
They are quite powerful especially with acid fang spell, but seem to have really poor support from UI. They do not have their own icon portrait (you have to click on model and press C to find out their stats and HP), which makes it troublesome to have them follow you around, and there is no information on what happens if they die in combat. I had mine die what seemed permanently, and had to backtrack, find its body in pile of dead enemies and use Resurrect scroll to get my bear back up. Do add hints if you can get new one on level up if that happens or if having to res them is intended. If it's intended, they should have their own little portrait, HP bar and hints how to handle them if they die etc.

I'll agree that it's really awkward. They should have a little sub-portrait on the master's character portrait.

Boon Companion is bugged as well, it should calculate stats as though you were 4 levels higher but it doesn't even seen to have given the thing any hit die, as far as I can tell Boon Companion has no effect on your pet at all (although I started with it, so maybe if you don't have it your pet has 4 hit points?)

I think Boon Companion caps at your max level, it's a feature for multiclasses if you skip a few main class levels?

Boon companion adds +4 to your effective druid level as long as that level does not exceed your character level.

The game definitely needs a health meter for the animal companions.

Apparently if animal companion dies completely it self-resurrects on rest or during travel, as I found out.

Animal Companions love having a friendly wizard with Mage Armor around, just to say.

But yeah, I think the animal companions would be far more fun if you could at least shove potions down their throat between battles or give them a proper sheet you can look at dependably.

Press "M" to open the map, click-select you animal companion and then press "C" while still on the map screen and the Animal Companion Character Sheet will appear, there you can check his stats.

BTW it's a shame there are no Lions nor the ability to name your animal companion otherwise I could've reproduce my tabletop PF pc on the video game.

you can give potions to your animal companion. it works like how a cleric can turn any spell into cure light wounds. put the potion in your belt. (you can't do this from inventory). Then click the little arrow above potion, just like you would on a cleric spell. A cure light wounds symbol will appear. click that and then you can target the heal potion on your pet or anyone else for that matter.

I can also confirm what Shadenuat said that resting will resurrect the pet. Though any ability damage the pet had before dying is still there >.<

the AC is kind of weak at the moment, yeah they seem like another fighter but since they have absolutely 0 feats like they are supposed to, cant equip them with anything like you can in PnP they are just a walking small bag of meat that dies all the time

Animal Companions are ok for the first few levels, but in the mid to end game their performance drops like a rock. They simply cannot compete at later levels against characters that have high stats, magic armor/weapons and such. They do distract the enemy for a bit, but in general die super fast.

they also add to you carry space!

Anyone else notice that the mastodon companion (which is amazing) has REALLY loud footsteps?

Just put Mage Armor and Barkskin on them and they'll quickly outstrip everyone else's AC. Though as others have noted, enemies have really high to hit, so AC isn't that much help... Still, when I started as a Sylvan Sorc, my leopard racked up most of the party kills for quite a while.
