Fangberry Cave
Has anyone managed to kill the spider swarm? No matter what I do, I either can't hit it or do 0 damage.

I heard you need to use AoE spells, torches or acid flasks.

Alchemist Fire helps a little. I will use my Torches in the next Run.

Tried all of that.

Perhaps lowering the Difficulty for this Fight.

This fight sucks lol Was that way in the last beta and they never changed it, For one of the early mini quest it is way over the difficulty of your party. You can win it but you are going to take some heavy damage because it draws out if you are using just torchs and have no one with fire/acid spells, Bombs or such.

Swarms follow Pathfinder Tabletop RPG's rules, which is that "They suck horribly much unless you have lot of AoEs and alchemist's fires/acids". Soooo yeah, you just have to do them at higher levels. Or use torches I guess

(And yes, as I said, Swarms are that horrible in P&P game as well :D I think its one of most hated enemy types as result)

I tried everything, torches do not seem to be a weapon. Acid flasks do like 1 pt of damage, as does Alchemist's Fire. I missed with Acid Spray about 70 times in a row. Looks like I'll skip this cave.

So I just did a test.... I leveled a character upto level 20 and then gave them a torch. I was able to kill the swarms. I was only doing 1 point of damage to the swarms but eventually after about 15 > 20 hits the swarm dies. So if you had a full party with torches and they were actually landing hits you could kill them in 3-4 rounds.

I then went back to my old save with my level 2 chars.... I bought 20 alchemist's fire potions to use and put the two torches I had on two of my characters. i was able to clear the Spider swarms with no issue.

Burning hands steamrolled that fight for me. A bit of collateral damage, but it handily defeated the swarm.

I didn't have any trouble with the spider swarms (but I've been a Pathfinder player for 10 years), but something is weird about that fight. I've seen it gone through 3 times, and I've never seen anyone hit directly with an alchemist's fire. I know the spider has an AC of 17, but for the entire fight, I didn't see anyone roll above a 6 on the die.

My one and only complaint with the entire game is that in that fight the dice seem to be weighted on the spider's side.

Just done this on hard at second attempt. I just loaded everyone up with 5 alchemy fire bombs each and made sure the swarms aggo'd Valerie while the others bombed them after killing the big spider.

One ot two bombs may not work, but 20 sure do. I think I had maybe three or four left at the end, that's how many you need. It's important to wipe out the first big spider and it's two swarms forst before the senond big spider and additional swarm arrives I think.

Of course I knew about this infamous encounter so I bought a pile of alchemy fire bombs off Bokken before I vertured out to Fangbury. They are not expensive.

I had a huge problems with these to start with, but when I figured out that torches did the trick it was rather easy to beat em. Just equip the torches you got in the inventory.
