Swarms can be difficult if you don't know how to deal with them, and this video game makes no mention in their bestiary about their attributes, which it should do.
With the new patch, Bokken should say they are weak to AOE and Fire, along with a loading tip.
Swarms are either immune to all weapon damage, when fine or diminutive, or takes half damage if they are made up of tiny or bigger enemies (In this case spiders are immune).
You will need to use elemental damage, so magical weaponry, torches, Area of Effect items or spells, like alchemist’s fire or fireball.
All swarms are immune to single target spells, so shocking grasp will not work. They also take 1/2 damage from AoE's, but this is one of the only things that will hurt them so beggars can't be choosers.
Kill the big spider first then just have everybody focus down the swarms one at a time with Alchemist Fire. Make sure you kill them quickly, finger on the pause button, before the second big spider and third swarm show up. Have Valerie tank 'em in defensive mode while she's chucking her flasks while everybody else retreats away from them to throw theirs. She'll hurt herself a bit but she's tough, she'll probably make it.
Out of the 20 flasks I took with me to this I think I had about three or four left at the end. So about 5 or 6 flasks per swarm. That's how many you need. But if you got them, it's reasonably easy.
