Does the game have any d8 weapons with a 18-20 threat range?
I want to play a Magus, but I don't want a Scimitar or Rapier. I don't mind burning a feat for exotic weapons if Katanas are ingame, I just want to make sure I can play a str based Magus, without the mandatory Scimitar for the crits.

Minmaxing a Magus usually invovles going dex and finding a way to add dex modifier to damage, though I'm not sure if that will be an option in the game.
Burning a feat so that you can get your average weapon damage from 3.5 to 4.5 when most of your damage comes from modifiers and spells is hardly minmaxing.

I just hate Scimitars.

If min-maxing isn't that important, then the only other 18-20/x2 one-handed finesse-able weapon I can think of is Waveblade. But that is still a 1d6 and I don't know if it is in the game.

If eastern weapons are in then there is the Wakizashi. Still 1d6 but it has the Deadly special property and has both P/S damage types.

You can do that if the weapon is finessable and you get rogue lvl3 into your build, or if the weapon itself has the "agile" property (several of those were found in the beta).

Elven Curved Blade does 1d10 with the 18-20/x2.

That's a two-handed weapon though, isn't it? Those don't work for spell combat.

Sevii, you have to look at it realistically with a magus. That is a difference of possibly 1-4 damage only. 1 or 2 without a crit, and 2 or 4 with a crit. The purpose of the crit is just to get that double damage on the spell. If you really want damage then go 13 str and pick up power attack. You get a significant damage increase compared to the possible 1-4. Power attack damage is doubled with crits.

If your wanting damage from the weapon consider the Falcata which is 1d8 19-20x3. Averages would still put a scimitar or rapier as a higher damage output though. The average of a d6 is 3.5 (crit 7), where the average of a d8 is only 4.5(crit 9). It is more but not compared to the average of 20d6 with a heightened shocking grasp with crit at level 10.

crits pay out better based on power attack and/or str rating more then weapon.

Yea, you didn't specify 1-handed. I don't know if it works with spell combat or not in this version of the game

Estoc 2d4 18-20/x2

Yea, Estoc's in the game.
