What are the most powerful spells in the game?
I remember a few powerful spells from BG 2 - wail of the banshee, petrification, finger of death, disintegration, power word kill. Are there saving throws vs death?

No timestop? my wizard is sad

That was still later Beta footage, so a tiny chance that it was added.

So wail of the banshee is in? Cool. How does it work? Saving throw vs death?
Grifta Sep 20, 2018 @ 2:49pm
Apparently it was altered to just massive... massive... damage. Like mass disintegrate. d6 hit point classes have to save or die, and d8 have a good chance of save or die.

I'm not seeing Wish in the spell list. If BG2 managed to implement it, so can this game. Also, I want my +5 inherent bonuses on everything.

@grifta that is actually how cry is in the pathfinder table top. pathfinder was really light on save or die spells.
hellishlord Sep 20, 2018 @ 8:36pm
While Pathfinder does have save-or-die spells, they're not the instant type. Suffocation and mass suffocation have taken finger/wail's places, and they work on a duration (Fort save or get staggered, then Fort save or drop to 0 hp, then Fort save or die)
Zerathule Sep 20, 2018 @ 9:47pm
Dominate Monster is better than a save or die spell, you take someone out, and you get an additional ally.
Sleep, level 1 spell is actually a death spell. When you're a sleep on a battlefield, you're as good as dead.

Woops, thanks for the correction. Someone weeks back said that it had changed, but I guess that they meant "changed from 3.5". And I've used level 9s maybe twice in my 10 years of pathfinder :P

It's actually 10 damage per caster level, fortitude saves negates ... pretty underwhelming.

Mass suffocation is absolutetly terrifying ...
At level 20 you basically target 10 creatures for 20 rounds.
You have to save every round. That's 20 saves. As long as you save, you're staggered (that means slowed). As soon as you fail your first save you're unconscious. If you then fail a second save you're dying (-1 hp). Then you're dead if you fail your third save ...
Cast it, then wait untill they're all dead.
Only creatures that don't breathe are immune to that ...
Now, is it in game ? :) (if it is, i think spell focus necromancy is going to be a priority ^^)

We have death clutch, it's still save or die.
