I will say I haven't played a Ranger in this game, so I am uncertain what Combat Styles have made the cut in this game. That said, I know they at least get the styles for Archery (not useful to you), and Two Weapon Combat. If you're fine with dual wielding, this is an option. The combat styles that may even be in the game consist of https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/ranger/ranger-combat-styles/. For your interests, two weapon fighting, 2h fighting, or weapon and shield are about the only ones you might want.
Note that the normal "Spear" is not a 2 handed or "Reach" weapon. Are you going for a full "polearm," 2h big weapon? Or a spear and shield sorta thing?
Otherwise, yes, Ranger itself should be a fine class to play. A long as you can make the combat style feats work for you, nothing about them is magically ranged focused.
