Its best to proceed directly to temple of elk at start of game, resque tristian, that way he joins your party also at level 3, while your guys are still level 2.5 - meaning tristian is a level ahead, which is good - and the other 2 companions you get starting chapter 2.
Its a good deal to do like this - tristian is better healer then the dwarf, and you get him a level ahead.
Harrim isn't just a healbot. He's a fantastic tank and a competent warrior.
Tristian cannot tank. His archetype's main feature makes him into a pseudo-Bard at the cost of weapons and armor, so he's just a different sort of cleric entirely.
